Baby hiccups

Baby boy gets the hiccups a lot - multiple times a day and lasting for sometime 10 min. Poor little guy. Anyway else get them frequently?

Re: Baby hiccups

  • Mine gets them all the time! I feel so bad for her because I HATE getting the hiccups!

  • Yep, she gets them daily, and sometimes multiple times a day. I've read a few articles saying they don't appear to cause them any discomfort so don't feel bad about it. My doctor told me its a good sign, not a bad one.

    Here's an article:

  • Yep, there have been lots of posts regarding this.
It's normal and healthy! Mine gets them 1-3x per day.
  • I was in my NST today and DD got the hiccups! It was so funny to hear them on the machine
  • Yup! :) it's kind of cute..... My whole body jumps when I get them, so I guess he's taking after me. Haha!
  • Yes my baby gets them a lot multiple times a day too, yesterday I asked my ob because I have read on google Many good things and bad and the only one who could really tell me was my ob and once I asked him he smiled and said it's definitely normal . It was such a relieve!
  • I have a question, what do they feel like for you ladies? I get a really rhythmic feeling down near my cervix (he's head down at this point), kind of like a pounding. It's really freaky. I assume they're hiccups and not that he's just fist pumping or trying to make his grand escape...
  • @Whovian84 that sounds like mine too, but mine are felt more on my left hip. They are faster than I might think they would be, but very rhythmic. It's a very weird feeling!

  • I was just thinking the same thing, I'm 34 n 4 and I feel like that's one of the only times I feel him move now.
  • It feels like a muscle twitch to me. It's usually my lower left side where I feel it
  • My DD gets them particularly at night when I am ready to go to sleep. She also seems to get them after I have been really busy and finally sit down. When I was pregnant with DS, he would have long sessions of hiccups. He had them quite a bit during his first year. He didn't mind them when he was a newborn and thought they were funny as he was older.
  • DD was having them very frequently in the womb. She gets them a couple times a day now that she's born.

Yeah this. It's the only movement I really don't like. When she gets them, i feel really sorry for her. I feel like I'M getting them, it's that same helpless, trapped-animal feeling.
  • @whovian84 The first couple of times I noticed the hiccups I thought my belly had developed a pulse, oops! Now baby is low and I feel the hiccups really low in my pelvis.
  • My girl gets them a lot, and they seem to be getting stronger as she gets bigger. I feel bad for her though, because I don't think she likes it. She squirms and kicks like crazy when she gets them!
  • DD got them frequently and I felt them near my right hip. This little guy doesn't. I've felt them once.

  • Mine has them multiple times every day. My OB said it was actually a good thing as it strengthens their diaphragm and gets them strong and ready for breathing on their own. So look at it as a good thing!
  • It's 5:00 am here and baby just kept me up with hiccups! It's such a strange sensation!!!!
  • The hiccups are a weird feeling because I feel them in my on the right side of my pelvis. I feel horrible, but really they annoy me. I'm glad they're a sign that things are going well, but I can pretty much guarantee that I'm going to get woken up to the feeling at 6:30 every morning and she's going to have them at 10:30 every night when I go to bed. I can't fall asleep though until she's done 10 minutes later.
