HELP! In search of blowout free diapers!

Ok so DD is 7 weeks old, almost exclusively BF, I supplement a 2 oz. bottle of formula twice, sometimes 3x any given day. LO poops once a day and it's generally a huge load... Her poo is still very loose and liquidy. For the past couple weeks without fail... Pretty much every poo is a blowout, either down her leg or out the back and front of her diaper.

The diapers I've tried since she's moved up to size 1 diapers: Pampers, Honest Company and Babyganics... Each brand still resulted in blowouts. I need help at this point. I'm not expecting 100% protection from blowouts but something better than the ones I've tried. Any and all recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you, mamas!

  • Huggies works for us. I know people swear by Pampers, but Huggies Lil' snugglers has never leaked/blown out on us. Pampers were horrible when we used them. She always had blow out diapers.

  • I had blowouts and leaks with pampers and switched to luvs and have never had one since. I love them

Yes, I am thinking of going back to Huggies! I loved them when she was in newborn size diapers. I have the other diapers I mentioned (lots of them) from the diaper raffle at my baby shower and wanted to use them but at this point it isn't worth it.
  • We use Huggies at night and they work well. Make sure you invert the diapers first so the gussets are facing outward.

Yes :] thank you. I do this every time and I even make sure the diaper is perfectly centered on both sides of her little bum and pulled to the back slightly further than the front side. The blowouts continue lol... I'm most likely going to try Huggies again.
  • We like huggies. Then when they are a little bigger, love love love Kirkland brand. Too bad their smallest size is a 1/2, so it's a little bigger than a straight 1. They're on sale right now, so I might have to get a box just to stock up!

  • We use Kirkland from Costco on our 9 week old. They've been reliable for us.
  • We have blowouts often with disposables, but don't use them enough to try multiple brands. If you need a guarantee for special occasions or travel, try a cloth diaper cover over a disposable. I did that with DD1 when flying. My favourite is rumparooz. 2 kids, and I haven't had a single poop leak with that brand.

  • DD was having daily blowouts in Huggies, so I opened a pack of Target brand and have been using them ever since. (I had a diaper raffle also so am stuck with a ton of different brands. So far we've used Pampers, Huggies, Luvs, and Honest Co. and Target brand is our fav!) I haven't had a single blowout since we started using them.
  • We had two blowouts in a row and realized that we are putting the diaper on wrong. Or maybe go a size up.
  • A size up usually helps I kept thinking they were too big and they weren't also huggies and luvs seem to be best.
  • Never had a blowout with seventh generation. No nasty chemicals either! I've used them on two kids.

  • Would you switch to cloth by chance? My LO is EBF and has had some really impressive dumps, one 9 days in the making. Without the cloth there is no way it would have been contained. We use disposables at night in order for the snuza alarm to have something tight to attach to, I pray we won't have any huge dumps in those!
  • What kind of body shape does your LO have? I was told that different brands work better with different body types. DS1 had lots of blowouts in pampers, but much fewer with huggies. I read that pampers work better for longer, thinner babies while huggies worked better for chubbier babies. It's all just trial and error until you find the right one for your baby's shape.

  • Target brand has worked best for us. We've tried huggies, pampers, Wal-Mart brand, and luvs with no luck. Luckily the target ones are pretty cheap!
  • @StefiGir she's long and thin lol. Pampers have been a no go for us. I'll just have to keep trying :] and maybe try a size 2 from the sound of it!
  • @dmbfan46835 I might try cloth. I've been contemplating it for awhile. Just gotta do some more research first.
  • @mariessa02 look into lilhelper brand. They are my fav out of all that I tried. They have a deal right now, 8 for $120. The inserts are bamboo and charcoal and I just love them. They also have a warranty so any issues with snaps or anything, I can send back. Thirstiest have worked ok as well. Good luck!
  • DS was always leaking our if Huggies. So far Luvs has been my favorite with keeping it all in. My next favorite would be target brand. They seem to hold up well too.
  • How funny! LO had blowouts and leaks with huggies and I switched to pampers swaddlers and we have never had a leak or blow out since! I guess every baby is different. Lol.
  • We use Luvs and have no issues. Huggies did not work for us at all.
  • @mariessa02 not sure if you're interested in used but I'm selling my cloth diapers that I used for DD1.

  • I've had a couple of blowouts with pampers but usually when it's time to go up a size or the diaper isn't quite tight enough.... I've tried Huggies and luves and LO has sensitive skin and reacted to those diapers. I've also tried honest company and they seem to run a bit smaller than pampers. They're okay but i had a few blowouts. I think our probably with blowouts is that when she goes it's never a small amount. Overall pampers seems to work best for LO.
