Have your movements decreased/increased?

When baby is active, he/she is REALLY active and I love it. I watch my bump jump around and feel baby ninja. However now had 2 occasions where baby has almost given me a heart attack and wants to sleep for a very long time! 1 day it was like from 8pm to 8am with no movements. Was about 5 mins away from going to L&D when they decided to join the party. From what I read, it's normal for movements to decrease from here on out as baby is running out of room. Have you noticed your LO's movements changing?

Re: Have your movements decreased/increased?

  • My baby's movements seems to have decreased during the day, but she's as active as ever at night still. My mom told me when she was pregnant with me she almost thought I died since my movements decreased and at one point just stopped... She had me a few days later. Said that always seemed to be her labor sign.

  • Mine have defiantly decreased. When i havent felt anything for a couple hours i try and drink something with sugar and lay down. That usually does the trick but i still get nervous when i cant get him to move around.
  • Mine have not decreased but have changed, they are bigger movements throughout my stomach instead of jabs. Sometimes when I am working I do not feel the baby much but I walk for most of my 12hr shifts, so i know it's not unusual for the movement to lull baby to sleep.
  • I'm 36 weeks today and mine have decreased but when she does move they are more defined movements that I can feel and normally see. At my ultrasound today the doctor said she is perfect!
  • Yup same boat. They are different because he is running out of room at 37 weeks. My midwife said it's a common complaint. You can always eat, lay on your side, and count movements for an hour if you get worried. It is something to be mindful of for sure.
  • This is my third. With my first I got nervous but found that as your baby drops lower, the placenta can be a barrier between baby and your belly so you just don't feel as much movement even if it's occurring. Knowing that helped me.
  • So glad you posted this. I'll be 37 weeks on Friday and have noticed all the same things. I teach and I go through most of the school day not noticing her move and find myself thinking, "Are you still doing okay?" At night while watching tv I have huge movements. When I try to go to sleep sleeping on my side, she goes crazy too.
  • My movements have decreased... I get half as many movements as I did in the second d trimester but I do my kick counts when I get worried and she is doing fine! My movements have turned into more of a rolling/jabbing like feeling and at times I do get some hardcore kicks. Before I would get only kicks that resemble a butterfly fluttering in a way.

  • My movements have definitely increased/changed. Her kicks are stronger and it looks like she's trying to ninja kick her way out through my sides. She also likes to stick her feet (or butt I don't know lol) in my ribs so I'll rub the hard spot and she'll move. 34 weeks tomorrow! :)
  • mine will move a lot for a few days then about every 3-4 days she is very calm sometimes not moving for hours then a feel little something but back to be very calm.....I figure those days she is sleeping and growing. but that will last basically an entire 24 hours..then she'll be busy again for a few days and nights

I've got bigger movements, for sure. Babies also sleep a lot.

  • @theawc42 that's exactly what my lil guy does and it freaks me out each time. Thanks for your post because I feel better now.
  • He likes to sleep when I am working, which is very nice. I walk a lot and talk a lot so he is quiet most of the day. When I get home and put my feet up, he becomes a little wiggle worm.
  • Yes my movements have decreased a little bit. But I remember the last week with my daughter they slowed down so much I was a total wreck! I was sure something was wrong. She was born completely healthy, so hopefully I won't be as worried this time around! Those what-ifs can really get to you, ugh!
  • At 39 weeks tomorrow this kid has been very mobile the past few days. Like crazy!!!
He moved tonight and I instantly got hungry. Or other nights I wake up starving. Then I don't want to eat cause of heart burn. Crazy kid!!!
  • I've noticed a difference in the kind of movements. It's more like rolling now from one side to the other or like she's twirling around. Sometimes in the evenings she'll go kinda crazy and punch or kick a bunch of times in one spot over like a few seconds. It's like she's boxing.
  • I went in to my midwife yesterday as I hadn't felt him for about 4-5 hours and when he did finally respond to my proding and cold drink of water it was very sluggish. As soon as she put the monitor on me he went nuts. I had pretty constant and intense BH the day and night before so she said he was probably just as tired as I was. She also said never hesitate to call or come in if I feel his movements have decreased.

I had the same thing happen to me Sunday. He started kicking the second she put the monitor on me. The nurse said that at 39 weeks he just doesn't have the room anymore.

  • My LO still moves constantly ... constantly.

    All the freaking time.
  • I'm 36+2, and my LO is constantly moving and going! Especially when it comes to the ribs and sides! I've also got thunder crotch. (sharp pains in my vagina from the baby moving around) Lol! But I do get some very strong Braxton Hicks Contraction, especially early in the morning. Not fun! But my LO is rarely calm. I sort of wish they would be at night, though. So I could sleep!
  • I'm pretty sure I felt his butt earlier. Like he was all squished up turtle style with his butt pushed out.... My belly got pointy and harder right in the middle. I was over at my folks house and my sisters poked him too...then I got a kick in the ribs. Ha! Guess he doesn't like being poked.

He likes classic rock drums, though!! Every time I play that in the car, he taps his foot and bobs around on beat. It's pretty neat.

Movement has changed. He's moving...stronger than before. Feels like more, but maybe just harder.
  • Baby was calmer the last day or two, I had to look for the movements because they were more subtle than usual (but still plenty of them). Last night, it was insane how big the movements were. I  was a little worried baby was kicking hard enough to break my water (no signs of any type of contractions or anything else suggesting it).
  • Baby is moving differently. More small movements that I have to be still and focus to feel and more strong movements that are like pressure and uncomfortable. Yesterday she was elbowing my side and I pushed back a little and she pushed much harder! Usually she drifts away if I give a little return push. It was painful and sharp!

This is me too. Lots of baby yoga up in there.
  • @kbirchtree yours sounds like mine! <3

    This is totally me!
  • Baby girl has been moving more here lately. When i try and relax is when she starts up. And its a mix of hard kicks/punchs to hard rolling around. It hurts at times but i know ill miss it once she is here.
