Holy After Thanksgiving Recipes

I went on to People.com and they had a picture article about hacks for Thanksgiving dinner (that were pretty nifty) and after Thanksgiving recipes. HOLY MOTHER... I would probably attack an innocent right now for some turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and my husband's grandmother's cranberry sauce (only). I think my favorite after Thanksgiving recipe in the article i saw may very well be a weird pg craving... Turkey Cranchiladas. I don't think I would eat it un-pregnant.

Anyone else have recipes that they make after Thanksgiving? I've already threatened to eat my coworker. I only brought Safari Chicken fingers (DD's) bc i had to come into work early and had no time to cook properly. Safari Chicken fingers aren't turkey.

Re: Holy After Thanksgiving Recipes

  • Nothing fancy, but I'm a big fan of turkey cranberry sandwiches with sourdough bread and an enormous slice of cheddar.

I also make breakfast crepes with leftover turkey and veggies (plus eggs of course). Cranberry sauce will probably go on top this year because I'm still up for weird combinations, can't get enough sour, and can't do hollandaise while pregnant.

  • They even had a recipe for leftover mashed potato waffle sandwiches with turkey, cranberry, and stuffing!

  • There is a great sandwich place where I live and I use my favorite sandwich there for my thanksgiving leftover inspiration... A sandwich with turkey, cranberry, mayo, mustard, candied pecans, and shredded carrots. It also comes with sprouts and cheddar, but I get it without. I know the cranberry/mayo/mustard (Dijon) combo sounds funny, but it's so good!!

  • The biggest thing left over for us is almost always turkey, so I find ways to put it in every meal- like turkey waffles (I just ripped the turkey into small pieces and put it in the batter, then waffled as usual), turkey pasta with a creamy pea sauce, turkey pot pies, and turkey noodle soup. The soup actually works really well since turkey is so lean it dries out quickly.

My MIL makes great cranberry sauce, and I hoarde that for sandwich spreads ... am so looking forward to that Friday morning ... :)

  • @AmmyBelle I will only eat my husband's grandmothers recipe for cranberry sauce. I guess it's more like a salad. It's fresh cranberries, oranges (cut up with the rinds still on), and celery cut up in a food processor. Then, mix cherry Jello with some sugar. Pour in the fruit and chill until set. OMG magic.

Cranberry relish. My grandmother used to make it and my mon still does. I hate the stuff. lol. No celery though.

  • My mom makes special chutney and wild rice stuffing that are OUT OF THIS WORLD. i would live on thanksgiving year round if i wouldn't end up looking like violet beauregard xD
  • I am salivating at this thread. I usually just throw the mashed potatoss, stuffing, turket, and gravy into a pan and stir it all together and heat it till it bubbles. Then I make an open faced sandwich with it and top it with cranberries. Omg why isn't it Thanksgiving??
  • HUGE fan of turkey taco's or enchilada's. Throw the leftover meat with some seasonings in the crock pot. SO GOOD! I love me some  Mexican food!
  • Oh man, I really really really hope that I get bloodwork back and can stop going gluten-free before Thanksgiving. I was worried about the pie but I'd forgotten the stuffing, the rolls, the EVERYTHING DELICIOUS.  Om nom nom.

  • I'm drooling at this thread...... unfortunately my family has preordered the giant meal from Cracker Barrel this year and will be picking up before hand.   I much rather prefer when we all bring a dish.

  • @nerdymama15 I've always wondered if those are good. I'm kinda tempted to buy a small one just so I don't get to bring many leftovers home... I'm so pregnant.

This will be the first year we have done it this way. Last year we did not get to have Thanksgiving b/c my mom was sick, and then year before I know they went and ate at Cracker Barrel, but I was not able to go due to working retail. I'm guessing though that if it is Cracker Barrel then it has to be good. Cracker Barrel food is delicious. Especially the hashbrown casserole. Yummy! Hubby and I are ordering a deep fried turkey from Bojangles just for us to make "sammiches" out of that weekend.
