I think you will find that this varies pretty substantially by region, and also depends on what your package includes. For example, we looked into one option that would have been $300 for the session but with a $300 minimum order (prints or digital), and part of the session fee was credited towards that order. We ended up going with a photographer who charges a flat fee and will give us digital rights to the pictures so we can decide if we want to have prints made on our own. Some photographers have packages that include prints. Our session and edited digital photos will cost $425, and we get 2-4 hours for a family session at our home. Some photographers I contacted also offered maternity/newborn packages if that's something you're interested in, but I think you'll want to get a few quotes from local photographers and I'd suggest starting ASAP as the good ones can book up pretty far ahead of time.
We are in Southern California- our 4 hour shoot is 200 and for all the prints (30 edited) on a usb drive it is 725... And that was about avg when I looked around here!

This is just about spot on from every photographer I've spoken to. The poster is right, book now. I was surprised when I called around last month and a lot of photographers were already booked for October. Particularly if you want/need a weekend day. (Some photographers do charge more for weekends.)
I'm getting maternity pictures next month, my friend and fellow photog is doing them. I get a major discount from her. I didn't get any with my last one (5 years ago) and did JCPenney one's with my first (horrid), so I'm pretty excited for these. I'm a photographer so I'll be taking her newborn pictures. It's so important to get newborn pictures because they change so much, and quick. So choose a good professional photographer, and one that has experience with newborns!
Thanks all. I think I found a good one, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't over paying. For maternity and newborn with some prints and pics it's going to be about $400. So it sounds about right.
Yeah nyc here I got quoted $650 and more! I've started pinning diy newborn photo shoot posts as I have quite a few friends who are good with a professional camera.
We just had our newborn pictures today, they ran us $125 and she sends us all the digital copies... we print where we choose. This is up in rural Minnesota to give you an idea as far as region goes...
Re: Maternity/newborn pics.
