Does anyone else not fully feel pregnant?

Hi all!

This is my first pregnancy and I'm super excited. I will be 6 weeks tomorrow. I have some symptoms: sore boobs, tired, and a little more hungry than normal. However, I still don't really feel that I'm pregnant. I guess maybe it hasn't sunk in yet. Does any one else feel like that? I'm hoping it's also not a sign that there are any issues with the pregnancy.

  • It never feels real to me until I can feel the baby moving.

I have my appointment on the 23rd. They say I should be able to hear the heartbeat. I'm thinking you're right and hearing it might really make this all real. I'm so excited but still can't believe it!

@BLS217 That's great! You'll be around 8 weeks on the 23rd, right? Just keep in mind there's a chance you won't be able to hear the heartbeat yet. I used to work as a nurse in a doctors' office, and would set up the rooms before prenatal visits. They requested that I not even put the doppler into the rooms until after 12 weeks because they didn't want the moms to get freaked out if they couldn't hear a heartbeat. You're doctor may try to find it but try not to be too upset if they can't! When I went in at 11 weeks with DD the doctor warned me he may not be able to find it, and that it didn't mean anything if he couldn't.
  • I definitely don't! DH heated up some sausage for us the other night and it didn't get super hot - I didn't even notice because all of that food safety stuff hasn't stuck with me yet. He turned right back around and took the plate back from me, telling me not to eat it yet. At least I've got him to keep us safe!
  • This is my first also and I don't feel pregnant yet either. It makes me worry that something is wrong... I can't wait till my US on Nov 30, I'll be almost 9 weeks.
  • I don't feel a whole lot other than exhaustion. I am completely okay with that though, with my DD I was sick for 21 wks, so that crap can stay away for as long as possible!

  • I don't necessarily "feel pregnant" but then again, I've never been pregnant before so I don't know what pregnant feels like  I'm glad that I'm not nauseous or super fatigued yet. I'm sure that is in my near future.

  • I was 6 weeks yesterday. My only symptoms thus far had been a late period and mild cramping. This morning though... whoa, nausea hit me so hard on my way downstairs I almost fainted. And all I could think about all day long is a sausage, egg, and cheese mcmuffin from McDonald's. I can't even remember the last time I had McDonald's, but I want one bad. Still not really feeling *pregnant,* just off. Though this is my first, so I guess I don't really know what pregnant feels like!
  • STM here and I don't feel pregnant, I think because I know what feeling REALLY pregnant feels like. I never had morning sickness the 1st time and I'm praying to God for a repeat LOL!
  • I'll be 6 weeks Thursday and I don't really feel pregnant either. My boobs are a little sore but my nipple are very sore. I'm tired a lot and I feel like I need to eat every 2 hours. I'm constantly hunger. I think it'll hit me once the morning sickness hits so I'm just waiting on that.
  • I'd rather feel not pregnant then have this morning sickness I have! lol once the baby starts moving it will feel more real. :)
  • I'm pregnant for my first time (5w5d) and I obviously just don't know what to expect either. I have some mild cramping, I'm quite fatigued and my nipple are very sensitive. But it all just feels like PMS. Thankfully haven't experienced nausea yet. But it's so weird knowing your pregnant but feeling like you have extended PMS lol.
  • I felt the same way as you until my first strong wave of morning sickness.
  • I didn't until Saturday morning when I woke up with nausea here to stay and fatigue that got me stuck to the couch all day... Weird how suddenly it happened! I was at 6 weeks exactly.
  • I'm 6w tomorrow and like most of you haven't felt much except for extended PMS symptoms. It's still surreal to me and I don't know when I'll actually feel pregnant. My first doctor's appointment isn't until November 24th and it seems like AGES away. I can't wait to get a check-up and hear that all is going smoothly. Anyone feel bloated a lot?
  • @dbillingsley623 yes!!!! I'm so bloated! I can't fit in my pants without the button digging into my belly! It's so uncomfortable! I'm thinking of going ahead and buying some maternity pants...
  • I definitely feel different. I am so bloated, gassy, heartburny, boobs ache, and I am starting to get nausea. Something is brewing inside!
  • Ugh, i would totally trade not feeling pregnant for this 24/7 nausea. I'm so miserable. Happy bit miserable.
  • I feel really pregnant. I'm 6w2d and I am SO sick all the time. I was in the ER last night because I started throwing up blood (which we found out is because my esophgus has tears in it). And I'm bloated and cranky and sleepy all the time! I'm a little jealous reading about people not feeling pregnant!
  • I'm a bit over four weeks, and the only difference I feel so far is that my breasts are a bit fuller and sore (but they're usually sore around ovulation and period, so it's not totally unusual). Otherwise I feel completely normal. I'm actually curious to see if I will get morning sickness, because I never throw up for anything. I remember throwing up exactly once in my life, about ten years ago, and that's it. Probably I'll be throwing up five times a day for the next two months to make up for it!
  • I feel exactly the same....

I am expecting my second but I can't remember if I felt like this with my first.

I have to keep reminding myself I am pregnant... it hasn't quite sunk in yet... Hoping that when I go for my scan on the 27th it will sink in :)
  • I am very bloated! I am expecting my second... so I  thought there is no way my bump could be showing this early on.

I guess it's just bloating and water retention. But its still uncomfortable...
  • I have bloating and frequent urination, so I mostly feel like I have a UTI and ate something not very good for me. I have a very sensitive stomach usually, so I expected to be throwing up by now: 5w5d. I am considering maternity pants tho to deal with bloat.

  • I'm 4 weeks and so far I have been having vivid nightmares, bloated, mild cramping, sharp twinges in my hips and a little more tired and thirsty. I hope this whole process could feel like it does now except for the nightmares because I feel good for the most part. I'm hoping I'm lucky and don't get some of the more unpleasant symptoms.

  • I am right there with you ladies. 5w6d and I don't feel pregnant. I am bloated and hungry, but maybe I'm just using the excuse of pregnancy to eat grilled cheese sandwiches. I am tired, but I am also waking super early and very alert. I am also desperately thirsty quite often, which leads to more peeing. Sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat. Good luck, ladies, and to those with nausea, hope it goes away soon.
  • I have sore boobs and I had some hot flashes (but they seem to have subsided at the moment), but there are large parts of the day where I don't feel pregnant at all. It was the same way with my first. I was with an RE until they released me at 8w2d, but I didn't feel much and it would leave me worried that something was going wrong. I think I there up three times with DD. Now, once I got into the second tri....well, I had heartburn like no other! And some RLP and sciatica.

  • I'm 6 weeks today, and I feel the exact same way as you. I've had minor symptoms over the last couple weeks, but nothing major. I honestly don't feel pregnant at all. My lack in symptoms makes me fearful something is wrong. I can totally relate.

You couldn't have described how I feel more perfectly @decoycandy! I'm eating more, but is it because now I think I have an excuse or I'm really hungry? I'm also right there with you with the thirsty thing.
  • This is my 3rd.  And I was just PG with my son 3 seconds ago.  And yet, none of this feels real yet.  None of it.  I go from being in complete shock to worrying because I'm comparing how I feel now to what I remember from the last two.  I've decided to take a zen approach and just try to take things one day at a time.

I'm 5 weeks today and everyone keeps asking me how I feel and I keep thinking, well...I don't feel very pregnant! I am thankful I haven't had any morning sickness and haven't felt extra tired either.  My only symptoms thus far are sore boobs and a ravenous hunger that cannot be tamed!  I also have pain in my teeth which I've read can be a symptom, but it's not terribly common.
  • I'm with you ladies! This is my 3rd but I still took 6 tests because it hasn't sunk in yet! Good luck to you all, I hope nausea doesn't pop up to those who don't have it yet!
  • I should add that i'm definitely bloated and feel like I have to drop a huge fart several times a day lol
  • STM here and the lack of symptoms has made me nervous as wel. With DD, the morning sickness hit at exactly 7 weeks (I'm 6 weeks today), so I'll check back in in a week! lol Hoping to hear a heartbeat on the 25th!
