Questions about being put on progesterone and BFPS

Hi ladies,

I've been TTC for going on month 7.  Just got blood work results that I have low progesterone and am going to see a specialist tomorrow.

From what I've learned from some of the ladies on the infertility board, the progesterone doesn't take that long to start working and to start getting your levels more in line with where they should be.

Can anybody verify any of that or have any experience with that?

Also, if you were put on progesterone, how long did it take you to get a BFP after that?

Re: Questions about being put on progesterone and BFPS

  • The progesterone doesn't need to build up in your system, it works immediately (that's what u were asking, right?). The progesterone itsself doesn't help you get pregnant or anything- it helps maintain a thick uterus lining (which aids in implantation if there is a fertilized egg). I got pregnant my first try using progesterone but that was because I did ivf. Good luck to u! :-)
  • @tripledaggerWed95976       Yes, that's exactly what I was wondering.  I had been told that it wasn't something that you needed to use or be on for a few cycles for it to start working, just wanted to get some insight on people's experiences with it.  But that's pretty awesome that you got a BFP on the first IVF cycle!!

    This.

It doesn't "take time to start."  It just starts.  We got a BFP on my second cycle while on progesterone and continued on it until I was 10 weeks.

    ****Potentially****

I don't want to give you false hope because I don't think the Progesterone GOT me pregnant, it helped me maintain the pregnancy.  I was also temping, checking CM, using OPKs, etc.  Good luck!

Oh I know......I'm just hoping that progesterone is the only puzzle piece missing I guess so that hopefully at least that will help things along sooner than later.

I had blood work done @ CD 3 and I didn't get the results of that other than it was good.  But I had the hindsight to ask what my levels actually were for CD 26 blood draw and they said progesterone was a 7.3.  So, I know that is low.

I guess if they haven't done some of the things like the AMH and anything else, I'm going to be pushing for anything within reason to be done this year because I'll have met my deductible as of Nov. 1.

So was progesterone the only part of the puzzle missing for you?  And I'm guessing you are seeing an RE?

I believe they drew my levels at like 7 DPO.  I can't really remember now.  Anyways, it seems like that was my main issue.  I was only having a luteal phase of 9-10 days and the progesterone obviously helped with that.  I was seeing an RE at that time, yes.  I was about to schedule my HSG if I hadn't gotten pregnant that cycle and thankfully I didn't have to.

  • So now I'm all anxious because no AF yet.....I'm so tempted to POAS tonight but I know better & need to wait at least until, tomorrow AM to see what my temps do. Even if by some crazy chance they haven't dropped more tomorrow, I'm worried about a miscarriage then if I were actually pregnant with the low progesterone......argh hh......the mind games are real!!

If you did end up getting a BFP you could always point out to them that you want your progesterone levels drawn again and they could always put you on a supplement afterward.

  • My temp went down this AM but no AF yet and I didn't test because my temps went down pretty significantly.....so I'm pretty sure AF will be here, just a matter of when.

  • I got pregnant my first Clomid and Progesterone cycle. My cycles were always really short. After a few blood tests, I believe the progesterone is helping me maintain this pregnancy (currently 5 weeks 1 day).
