  I had that same question myself but was never able to answer. The classic time for the scan is 12 weeks. It is true that a blighted ovum would not involve a heartbeat, but that is only one of the possible reasons for mc.
  
  I would recommend keeping the news as private as possible at this point. There is so much heavy duty development work happening at this stage.

  This was in the January 2016 Moms board, it's been reposted to different boards (including mine, May 2016 Moms). It gave me some peace of mind, especially since I'm also a FTM and was terrified of having an early MC. I'm now in the comforts of second tri hope this helps you a little!

  definitely check this chart out! very helpful. i think the chance of MC goes down based on how many weeks you are, not if you hear a heartbeat or not. once you pass week 12 you're out of the riskiest part of the pregnancy.
