21st birthday

I'll be 35 weeks pregnant on my 21st. I partied a lot in school and I've been to bars, so I'm not too bummed about missing out on all that. But still, 21 is really the last exciting birthday, and being so pregnant, I still want to do something fun. Any ideas??

  • 21 is definitely not the last exciting birthday.
I had my 30th in August and I was slightly bummed to not have the "epic party" for my dirty thirty.
I just had a good day visiting with family and friends, and we are postponing the celebration to next year :)

Two years, two losses and three IUIs...

    We are having TRIPLETS!

  • Definitely not your last big birthday, but I'd want to do something fun too. The mani/pedi idea mentioned is a good one.

I had a 'pudding' party one year, still a party but no alcoholic drinks (there are loads of virgin cocktails if you wanted to pretend), and everyone brought a dessert. Right now, baby keeps wanting cake so this idea appeals to me no end, but it depends how healthy you're trying to be! We did have a big fruit salad too though.
  • I found out I was pregnant 2 days before my 21st birthday, I was bummed that I had to cancel my party and everything but I went to the comedy club instead! There's drag queen bingo too that could be fun lol, one of my friends did that and said it was a blast. Maybe a movie or bowling?
  • I was pregnant on my 21st. I still had tons of fun without the need to drink. You still have the big 30, 40, and 50 to look forward to. And the great quarter century milestone seems to be big lately. It's your birthday. Any birthday is a reason to celebrate!
  • Sooo not your last big birthday! I had epic plans for my 40th, but was 4 months pregnant. My husband knows he owes me a trip to Vegas to make up for no crazy party! That said, I tried for a long time for this little guy and thought it was not to be, so he was a great early birthday present and TOTALLY worth a sedate birthday.
  • Just because your pregnant on your 21st doesn't mean when baby comes you can't go and make up for that fun. Of course be responsible because you have a little one to go home to but after 9 months of carrying DD I'm going to want a drink!

  • 30 is a pretty fun birthday
  • I consumed MUCH more alcohol on my last birthday (27th, a week or two before conceiving, conveniently) than I did on my 21st. I'd have a girlie day with friends, and then have a crazy party whenever you feel like it after baby comes (pump and dump if you drink though!), for your next birthday, or the next weekend you feel up for going out again. Birthdays are just excuses, you don't NEED it to be a special day to have fun...and you also don't need alcohol to have fun on a special day :)

It really doesn't have anything to do with missing out on the alcohol. It's the my family and friends and I have been planning this epic trip to Vegas for basically my whole life for my 21st since I'm the baby of the group. So since we won't be boarding a plane to gamble and drink away our life savings, I still wanna do something fun and memorable.

I'm really not looking forward to any birthday past 29, lol.

Love the mani pedi spa day idea. I'll probably go with that since it's the one day of the year I get to be pampered.
  • ^^ Totally. You can do a Vegas trip another time, but there is still a lot to look forward to. Every year after 21 has been better than the year before it. I'm turning 31 next month - it's not all downhill after 29!

  • I feel like the fear of aging changes after you're a mama. Cus really that is true, the best is yet to come. I definitely don't think 30 is old! But the thought of me being 30 is weird. 30 used to seem old to me, but the older I get, the higher in age the term "old" gets to me.

Side note- if you use the word "old" enough, it definitely doesn't sound like or look like an actual word.

I was in the same boat! Some of my family and friends were in the works of planning a wine tour for my 30th.  My Birthday is in June, so we were excited because it was the end of our school year in New York and the weather was getting pretty warm already.  The week after Mother's Day was when I found out I was pregnant, so we are now planning to do one on my 31st.
  • Lurker here. I wasn't pregnant for my 21st and it sucked. However, my birthday this year at around 34 weeks pregnant was a blast. My SO and I had our last overnight trip pre-baby and spent two days at Disney just enjoying each others company and EPCOT's food and wine fest.

The mani/pedi idea sounds awesome - plus clearly, food. Maybe go ahead and set up a general timeframe for you and your friends to go to a winery/have your first night out post-baby? Not a specific date, but maybe something like "Hey! Plan on us all going out sometime in May once LO is old enough to hang out with dad/grandma for an evening!"

I'd make everyone in the family/friend circle write down their favorite wine/beer/cocktail of choice though, for future use ;)
  • In my opinion, late 20's are so much more fun than early 20's.

Dress up and go for a nice dinner and drink mocktails with your girl friends.
  • Maybe you can plan yourself a "baby weaned!" or "baby's born!" party for next year, depending on your preferences/breastfeeding plans? My husband and I bet on baby's sex--the winner (me!) got an "extra birthday". Obviously that doesn't work as well for throwing a huge party unless your friends and relatives are very tolerant, haha, but I'm at least looking forward to a spa day and a boozy dinner out :)
  • Make way, make way. Old broad coming through. My 40th was the best birthday party I ever had. We had the money to spend on a huge party where we treated our friends and family to an amazing night of food, booze, DJ, and dancing until 3:00. It's STILL talked about as one of the most epic nights. Also, nobody barfed. (That I know of.)
  • 21 is the last exciting birthday. LMAO....
  • I turn 21 in less than 3 weeks and I'll be 35 weeks. My husband and I are going out to a nice restaurant where I can finally join him in the bar lol. After baby is born whenever I decide I'm ready to leave her for a few hours I'll probably go hang out with some friends or something. But I will enjoy my first legal drink sometime after baby is born :)
  • It's totally normal to feel like 21 is the last exciting birthday so I totally understand, OP! I'm 23 now but I remember having a really boring 21st and I was pretty down about it because I thought that was my last chance to have a fun birthday. Not true! We threw my dad a surprise 50th last year and he got wasted and had a blast! ;)

My birthday was in July so I was already pregnant, and my mom got me a home made ice cream cake from my favorite place and we celebrated with family and friends. Seriously, food can definitely make up for alcohol.

I like other's ideas of having a "first night out" or "baby weaning" celebration. You can even just called it your belated birthday celebration! Either way, I know you'll find a way to have fun :)
