Spitting up

I know that spitting up in babies is normal but my LO spits up so much, like SO MUCH. He still has a good amount of wet and poopy diapers so I'm not worried but I'm wondering if how much he spits up is normal. He spits up after every feeding at least 3 or 4 times and it's quite a bit. What do you ladies think? Maybe reflux?

This normally means they're being overfed, from what my pedi told me. She recommended shooting for 1 oz per hour that she has not eaten (so 4oz every 4 hours, for ex.) For my 3 week old.

  • Make sure baby doesn't lay down flat until you get a burp! This has drastically reduced spit up for us!
  • Not sure if you are breast or bottle feeding, but is it possible LO is getting too much too fast? Agree with PP on keeping baby upright.

@shantyrae does your LO actually take that much??

  • My 3 week old is also spitting up quite a bit. Not as much as the original poster but enough to cause concern. She is eating a lot already so I thought we were over feeding her but now I take burp breaks in between feeding her a 4 ounce bottle and the spitting has significantly decreased. Try burping every ounce of so like @shantyrae said.
  • I have the same issue but he's bf so I have no idea how many ounces he's getting per feeding as the pp suggests. I try to just burp him before I put him down but sometimes he doesn't burp.
  • I'm breast feeding as well but I scheduled him a doctors appointment for tomorrow because I'm just worried about the amount he spits up. He spits up to the point where he's screaming because he's hungry 5 min later
  • What time is your appt? How long has he been spitting up? Google pyloric stenosis. If the doctor doesn't order an ultrasound you should request one.
