Can't eat anything... Ideas?

I'm 12w4d and haven't had any morning sickness or severe symptoms, just a little nauseous and really tired. Saturday I became extremely nauseous and was unable to eat anything but a little broth. Sunday I woke up dry heaving and couldn't eat all day. Today is the same, every time I take a bite of something my gag reflex kicks in and I can't swallow and when I do get something down it comes right back up. I've lost a little over 3 pounds in two days but no fever. Any suggestions that might help me eat?

Re: Can't eat anything... Ideas?

  • Can you drink something like gatorade or pedialyte, just to give you some electrolytes?  Have you called your doctor?  I don't want to sound like an alarmist but if you've gone three days without keeping anything down you may want to go to the ER to get fluids and prescription meds.  Sorry you don't feel well and I hope you feel better soon!

  • I would definitely call your doctor (either OB or just GP) to get their opinion on what you should do. As PP said, you don't want to get dehydrated. Good luck!

  • Definitely call your doctor! Even if it's late, there should be a 24 hour emergency line. Alternatively, go to the ER.
  • Thanks ladies! I have been able to keep fluids down for the most part. I called my dr yesterday she put me on a clear liquid diet for two days and put me on an anti nausea medicine. Hopefully in the next couple of days I will be good to go!

That sounds terrible. Hopefully your doctor can help you. Maybe try protein shakes if you can keep them down.

My nausea has gotten worse this week at 12wk3d..and its coupled with dizziness and faint spells. I hope we both start feeling better soon. The second trimester is approaching.
  • My nausea was pretty horrible to start. I had food aversions to everything. When I went to my early pregnancy class the nurse said that it's best to make sure that I'm getting enough liquids. She recommended just having broth to start. I was eventually able to eat again (still having aversions) but every time I did eat I would get horrible reflux and be extremely uncomfortable.
  • :( I'm sorry! My nausea has been bad like that. I take really little bites and have been eating mostly bland foods. It's rough but it will get better!

  • My dr said that I could have broth today so I'm looking forward to something with a little taste to it. I've had food aversions to just about everything the whole pregnancy, so far, but was always able to keep things down. This last week just got really bad and I have acid reflux already and this is not helping! I had some jello because my stomach is starting to hurt from being empty for so long and water and Gatorade can only go so far. Hoping I will be able to eat before thanksgiving haha! No headaches today though so it is getting better! I hope you ladies get then relief as well!
  • I just wanted you to know you're not alone. I've been in the hospital 3 times for fluids and I've lost 20 lbs.... but baby still appears to be healthy.
Try to get fluids as often as possible and pray they give you some good meds. I can't function without mine.
