Our little one is only 2 weeks old. He's a great napper and will sleep in his crib or our room in a cosleeper. It usually takes 10 minutes or less and he's soundly sleeping. Sometimes it takes all of a minute. He naps about every 90 min throughout the day.
At night we put him in our bed in the cosleeper and then go out of the room for awhile and watch tv or whatever.
When he wakes in the middle of the night it has taken up to 4 hours to get him sleeping again. We shush, pat, rock, get up and walk him, swaddle, reswaddle, sing, etc. I'm at my wits end. I've had 3 hours sleep for the last several nights.
I wonder if him bring in his own room would help. He's so tiny I hate to leave him alone.
Thoughts?
Re: Putting baby in his nursery
Your LO probably still has his days and nights mixed up. My first child would be up for hours in the MORN when he was a newborn and I couldn't figure out why. It drove me nuts and I was exhausted too. Then I realized it was normal and a part of them figuring out night versus day so with my second child I did things a little differently. Keep it bright and noisy during the day and quiet and dark at night. Don't limit those day time naps because they will actually help your LO to sleep better at night once he's a little older. Sleep begets sleep.
Both my kids stayed in our room for the first month or so then I moved them to their own rooms. Everything with kids is trial and error so if you want to try moving him to his own room then go for it. Some people do that from day 1.
Also, maybe don't try so much in the MOTN when he's awake. Everything you are doing is probably stimulating him even more. Right now he is just going to be awake in the night so maybe just let him lay there in bed with you until he gets tired again. That's what I did with my second kid. I watched a lot of TV in the MOTN
Hang in there, it will get easier.
Last night was better. He went back to sleep and was up at 11, 12:30, 2:45 and 4. Not great- but at least he slept between feeding/changing last night!
