Transition too late ?!

My baby girl turns 4 months on the 25th and I've been only breastfeeding since she was born! Never tried to bottle feed. So I want to start pumping and try to get her used to a bottle before I go back to school (college) I tried today and she refused to drink from a bottle so I gave up and fed from the breast... Is it too late ? What are some ideas I can do or tricks to get her to drink from a bottle from now on? I really need to go back to school so I have to start leaving her with a babysitter (most likely my husband or mom) please help

  • Did you try to feed her or someone else? My DH did it the first time and she did really good.

Hi! My son is also exclusively breastfed. I tried many bottles including Tommie tippie and comotome and he took them a couple times. I leave him only twice a week when I go to college with my mom and dad. My son turned 4 months last week and my mom tried a training sippy cup designed for 4 months and up and my son actually liked it. Another bottle I've actually heard of is the Minbie bottle, which is really similar also to the breast nipple and I've heard nothing but great reviews on it and you can get it on amazon. I hope this helps and if a bottle doesn't work for you, maybe try a training sippy cup since your little one is getting big enough to try one. Good luck mama!! :)
  • My LO refuses the bottle from me or even from anyone else if I'm around. He will eat from a bottle if I'm not in the vicinity.
  • My LO also refuses the bottle, regardless of who gives it to her. We have only tried three brands. We started at six weeks. I don't think it's your fault in starting late. Keep trying new bottles. Best of luck!!
  • I have never tried to give my baby a bottle and he does well with the born free brand
  • Try the lansinoh Momma bottle. It works great, I've recommended it to many friends.
  • Try having someone else feed them while you are not around. This worked for us. Apparently they can smell mom even in the next room. We also use born free and have had success. He still won't take a bottle from me though.
  • Will your baby take a pacifier? I'd try that and keep attempting the bottle.
  • Have you tried warming the milk? My LO will only take milk from the bottle (doesn't matter the brand) if it's warm/hot.
  • What bottles are you using? Maybe try a different brand. I like the munchkin latch bottles. They're very close to the breast. My LO never had an issue. I'd also try having someone else give it to LO. Just keep trying!
  • What about trying a sippy cup? I am in the exact same situation (4 mo old who refuses a bottle)! I haven't tried it yet, but am going to ask my pediatrician if it's okay because he's about to start daycare. Anyone have any luck with this? Any brand recommendations?

Yes my son preferred his training sippy cup over all the bottles we tried! He really likes it and does well with it. It is designed for babies 4 months and up!
