Having Bra issues- Anyone have recommendations?

Hi ladies!

I was a 34DD before I got pregnant and now that I'm 23 weeks I've noticed in recent weeks they have definitely outgrown my regular bras. I've also noticed when I eat I get fuller faster but the underwire in my bra tends to dig into my growing bump and I almost can't finish a meal without taking my bra off. Pretty comical but does anyone have any elastic bras or good supportive maternity bras you would recommend so that these gazongas can be re-tamed?

Thank you all so much!

Re: Having Bra issues- Anyone have recommendations?

  • I switched to nursing sports bras when my regular bras started to irritate. I got mine in a BOGO sale at Macy's, I think they're Motherhood maternity brand. I like them, but I started with small boobs and haven't grown THAT much bigger (I mean, I notice a difference, but I haven't gone up a ridiculous amount).

I couldn't find any just maternity bras - only nursing bras, so that's why I went with those. I know there has been a few threads started on this topic recently, so maybe use the search function and try to find them because I can't remember the suggestions people made.

Thanks so much @brushnbrunch! I'll check out Macy's and search the topic!

  • Not super supportive as a wear-to- work type of bra, but I loved my Bravado body silk bras after DD was born. No underwire, room to stretch, comfy. I've be wearing Wacoal brand underwire bras with a wide band to work for my G/H girls.

  • I've never had a proper bra that fits and have everything from a 36 C to a 38 DD in my wardrobe. Before I got pregnant I measured myself and learned I should be in a 32 G but never found such a bra (even online ) that fit my shape correctly. Now I'm even bigger and at a total loss. I want to do those nursing sports bras for comfort, but they only come in S M L, etc . I actually have a small band, and large cup size so idk where I fit in those....

I would maybe go into a lingerie store (not like sex shop, but an actual bra store) and get professionally fitted, and talk to the salesperson and get their rec's.

  • The maternity bras don't give me much support I've tried several different one from motherhood store I ended up going to Victoria secrets and getting supportive sport bras so much more comfortable!!! They have padding and cup shape to them but dont dig and have wire in them! Im only a 32 DD but i started at a -b right before pregnancy so big awkward change for myself.
  • @MrsAguirre117 ;)) I'm a FTM and I naively wasn't prepared for all the changes that my body has gone through. I seriously thought, "Oh, they won't grow until the end, you know, when the milk comes in." HA. Every maternity brand I've tried on were just blah looking. Mama needs support.
  • I recommend Nordstroms for getting fitted.
  • I just want to say that I was also a 34 DD before pregnancy, I'm an F now . What the hell is this! It is EXPENSIVE. I've been getting small tanks to help hold my boobs because I can't afford heir growth rate. I even bought up when I got the new bra.

I am thinking after baby it's time to cut some off! It'll save me a fortune in the back pain area after , im sure!

Anyways, good luck with the Tatas!
  • Victoria's Secret has a new bra- the lounge bra. It's soooo comfy. No underwire, the straps adjust to the weight of your ladies, and they are shaped great for nursing. Plus they're soft! I got two. LOVE

When your boobs are about to over run china, you need the wires unfortunately. I can't wear any wire free bras. My boobs are always like "nope nope nope"

  • Just wait until the milk DOES come in. I overslept one morning after my last baby and woke up like "Holy Good Lord, WHAT HAPPENED????"

I'm thinking about taking it back because it's still slightly too small.

  • I'm somewhat envious of you all, I'm still the exact same size. My boobs are definitely fuller but there has been no change in cup size at all. Worried what this means for breastfeeding as I didn't go up last time either and had a lot of supply issues.

Also at Nordstroms they will convert regular bras into maternity bras for you.

I hate getting fitted because every time they tell me i need a larger size I feel like dying. I'm thinking of just hiring someone to hold my boobs all day.
  • Zulily has You! and Hotmilk bras on sale. Go to their websites and measure before you buy. Then check Amazon to see if it's cheaper.

  • You can buy a bra extended at most maternity stores. I got mine at Motherhood Maternity. It was $5 or $6 and it just hooks to your bra to extend it up to 4 sizes. I did buy some new bras at about 3 months and Dillard's or Macy's is great for larger cup sizes and good quality and prices. I started as a 36 DDD and now wearing a 36 G. So I know what it's like to try to find a good bra that fits and is comfy and cute.

Bra extenders only work on the band, though. It won't help the cups.

  • I figured this thread is as good a place as any for this question. Has anyone else's boobs shrunk lately? Mine had grown 3 cup sizes but in the last 2 weeks have gone down a cup size. I'm 24 weeks tomorrow, so I guess they shrunk around 22 weeks. Anyone?
  • Because they keep growing, I haven't bought new ones yet, I'm a 42G.  What I did is add an extender to the hooks.  It works for now and gives me a little growing room (especially after I eat) and I'll probably go get nursing bras in January or so.

That doesn't give more room in the cups though. If your breasts are growing, you'll need bigger cups and not necessarily a larger band.

I wish mine would, but they just keep growing.

  • I just suffer until my milk comes in lol. With DD I tried to keep up with all the boob changes but I spent a small fortune on it. My girls are bigger now than they were when my milk came in with my first so I'm just wearing sports bras unless I have to go out in public lol. I always had nice 34C boobs until I was about 22 years old. Then they randomly grew to a 34DD at times DDD and never went back. I still can't bring myself to spend the amount of money on bras that size. So during pregnancy I suffer lol.

I started a 34F. I bought a 36G and took it back because it was too small. I bought a 36H and returned it because it was too small. I'm scared to know what size I should be wearing, but I have to do something because it's painful.

  • @DrillSergeantCat super random but boob related in a way, is it okay to ask what your chiropractor does for you? My boobs are literally too heavy for my body to support now. (Sorry if TMI or weird but..) DH will hold them in his hands to take the weight off and even he is starting to struggle. My only form of relief is fading fast! I was looking into it but have never been so I thought getting insight might be smart first.
  • @thisusername - they first massage wherever I'm having issues with their hands, they do ultrasound on my upper back and shoulders, then they run the oscillator over me which is basically a big vibrating pad that thumps me all over but feels soooooo good. Then, the doctor comes in and feels along my spine, asks where I'm hurting, adjusts the vertebra that need it - if it's in the back this is done with quick pressure in the direction the vertebrae needs to go, if it's in the neck it looks like he's trying to break my neck honestly. I have issues with my hips, too, so he then has me roll onto my side, pull the top leg up and he basically crawls on top to adjust my hips. Then they usually put me on the roller table which stretches out and further massages my back. It really helps.

I'd try Lane Bryant- I used work there and bra fitting was sorta "my thing". I just went a few weeks ago and bought a band and a cup size up. My boobs haven't really grown yet but my bump is starting really high so it's effecting my band size and I wanted tohave the room to expand into but they still looks fine and feel great right now,

A few years ago before gaining some weight I was a 34G So there was a time when I was too small for LB bras and it was a sad time in my life. After weight gain and prior to pregnancy I was a 38G. The size of G even makes a big difference when it comes to band size. a bigger band means a slightly larger cup too. (it's very obvious to see when you go to LB because you can hold up and compare just the cup of a 38C to a 46C).

There are a few different bras based on how you are shaped might be comfortable. I went with the T-shirt bra and it's awesome. Everyone that works at LB is trained to do bra fittings and they always have coupons and sales. They aren't cheap but if you are used to being a G you are used to expensive brands. Their extended (F,G,H) cups start at a 38 and some run REAL tight.
