Sex during the First Trimester.

Hello All,

I thought I'd start this because we're all adults and most of us are married of have a SO, and well, we're all still human.

Last night was the first night in a while that i actually felt good (probably because I slept for 14 hours on Saturday) and I decided that DH and I would get frisky. It wasnt anything out of the ordinary, but it was good.

Flash forward 3-4 hours and I have EXCRUCIATING craps that lasted about 15 minutes. It was so bad i was crying by the end of it. There is no blood (thank God), but it happened again in the middle of the night.

Today I called my Dr and they worked me in during lunch time. He did a full pelvic exam and said my uterus is tender. We're doing a sonogram on Thursday to check all the anatomy for ectopic or cysts. He also said that it could be TWINS!! IDK if to be excited or to faint. If it's twins that could be why my uterus hurts so much because it's stretching out faster than with one baby.

The other thing that he said it could be is that my Cervix isnt tucked under quite as much as most women and it's basically like hitting the bottom of a paddle. All the jarring could be the issue.

Either way I am now on restrictions from any strenuous activities including going to the gym. I can still go to work and walk around but no running, no squats, no lifting weights, and no sex with my husband.

Any advice, anyone experience this, does it get better?

Thanks!!
Me: 27
DH: 29
BFP: 10/25/2015
EDD: 7/5/2015!!

Re: Sex during the First Trimester.

  • Orgasming causes uterine contractions so cramping after sex is normal. So is spotting/light bleeding because the cervix is filled with blood and more tender. Obviously, since your uterus is tender (according to your doctor,) that cramping was magnified.

I've been on pelvic rest in the past. Is it ideal? No. But you just do what you have to do for your baby. I recommend connecting with your DH in other ways such as kissing and cuddling to keep the intimacy.

The only way to know if you are having twins is through an u/s. There is no way to know that through a pelvic exam.

    Good luck at Thursday's u/s!!!

^ agree with @BostonBaby1. She is wise.
Sometime after sex I get cramps even when I'm not pregnant. We've only done it once since finding out beacuse I feel like crap. I actually didn't cramp that time.
  • I was on pelvic rest with DD from 11 weeks until my anatomy scan at 21 weeks due to a subchorionic hematoma. It sucked. I feel for you! I agree with PP, find other ways to keep intimacy in your relationship (even if it's just kissing and cuddling).

    Sorry you're dealing with this!
