Wider hips already?

Hey all- maybe I should be putting this in a symptoms thread, so I apologize if I am doing this incorrectly.

Wondering if any of you feel like your hips have already widened? I am 10w6days, but from about 7 weeks on I feel like my hips have gotten substantially wider. It makes sense that they would do this to accommate the baby, but I just didn't expect it so soon.

Anyone else feeling this too?

Re: Wider hips already?

  • Yes. I've felt like it for about a week now. My skirts still fit in the waist, but they're snug in the hips. This is my second baby, and I def remember my hips beginning to adjust early on with my DD. I'm surprised my back hasn't started hurting yet.

Or maybe my ass is just getting big.

  • I don't remember a change like this with my first but my butt is spreading for sure. Most of my pants can't go over it anymore and I've only gained 3#. Lol
  • With DS my hips definitely started spreading around 6 weeks. The pain in my hips was excruciating for a few weeks. Luckily I was only achey a few days this time around.

  • Ah the joys of pregnancy :) thanks guys- this makes me feel like I'm not alone in my wide hipped state :)
  • yeah, my joints are definitely loosening and spreading. hurts :(
  • I always slept with a pillow between my legs and that seemed to help. Good luck ladies!

  • Ditto to the pillow between the legs. I kept it up even when I wasn't pregnant and it made a huge difference.
  • I'm positive my ass has grown a foot in each direction, yet the scale stays the same. Time to stock up on yoga pants.

  • I also have kept the pillow between my legs :-) it's great advice.

I remember this happening with my first pregnancy, and I don't think they ever went back to normal.  But by 10-11w with DS, I was in maternity pants, not for my growing belly, but because of my hips.  It was also the first place I got stretch marks...

I am not noticing it yet, but like I said, I don't think they ever went back to normal! I was OK with that though... because I had very narrow hips before, and I think it makes my shape more proportioned.

So far, no change on the scale!

  • Ditto on the pillow! Been sleeping that way for years now. At some point I will surround myself with pillows as I get bigger, always lovely for ur partner. My right hip as killing yesterday when I went for a run...so much for working out these days, I give up;)

  • I'm 10w today. I can't tell if they're widening or not, but my hips joints are SORE. I'm constantly switching up how I'm sitting because I get really uncomfortable if I'm in one position for too long. No bueno.
  • I'm 10+5 and my hips have been super achy. I think I read the relaxin starts kicking in around now :-/ I've always had wide hips, and I don't think they've widened a ton. Man, it's so weird to see what your PP body looks like. You can reach pre-preg weight and it's all shifted to different places! Anyway...yes. Hips = ouchie.
  • Ditto on all of this. I actually spent the morning googling whether or not my hips should be hurting at 7 weeks. I typically sleep on my side or on my stomach. If I can't sleep in any of these positions Idk how I'm going to survive. Definitely going to try this pillow trick..
