Csection hospital bag

Scheduled for repeat section as my first pregnancy ended up an emergency section. Needless to say I was less than prepared the first time around. Looking for advice from some repeat section mamas.
Did binders help- if so what kind?
What else should I pack that I might not think of for a routine vaginal delivery?
Thanks!!

Re: Csection hospital bag

  • Great post! I'm curious as well - on the same boat here!

With ongoing thoughts, I've only came up with my going home outfit. But I have read "C-panty" & "belly bandit" are good to have. Hoping someone has personal experience with these!

  • I used the hospital binder while there but then switched to the belly bandit bamboo after. I like the style because it does get annoying and easily removed. Also for home getting some Hanes granny panties to go over your incision. I forgot and my husband reminded me about that one. Taking gowns to wear not pj sets because they are constantly checking your incision. If you don't want to wear the hospital gowns the whole time. That's the major thing no pants. Slippers or socks with grips. Shower shoes because you will be there for a few days and shower a couple times. Other than that the toiletries and maybe some middle of the night granola bars or something. And remember the first day you are stuck in the bed completely. Good luck!

This is the list I keep on a desktop sticky note.  I add things if I think of them, but this is the basics of what I've take for each delivery, c-section or otherwise.

    2 yoga pants, 2 tanks/shirts, 2 night gowns, 2 bras, slippers, socks, depends,shower shoes,
**toiletries** *sham/cond/body wash, *toothbrush/paste, *deodorant, *makeup, *brush, *hair ties, *lotion, *Chapstick, phone/charger, camera, tablet, wallet, going home clothes

ETA:  I typed it as a list, but it keeps doing that.  WTF?  Editing to add commas since it's being stupid.

  • I bought high waisted panties from motherhood maternity last time that I loved. They kind of held everything in so to speak and the band was high enough that they didn't bother my incision. They were my main post-op "must have". Well that and the pain meds.
  • What should one plan on packing to wear home from the hospital post C?

  • I was so swollen from all of the IV fluids when I went home- bring big loose pants and slippers- they were the only comfortable option
  • My first was a C section and keeping my fingers crossed for a VBAC. I know you where looking for repeat mamas but I did want to give a thumbs up from the belly bandit. I helped me a lot with pain and recovery.

This is my first c section and everyone says to wear yoga pants (going home). It's going to be freezing outside! How are yoga pants going to keep me warm :-S. The ones I have are such light material and I'm bad with the cold weather. :(

  • I live in Canada where it's very cold in January! I have to say, yoga pants are much warmer than jeans! I often wear them most of the winter to stay warm.
  • @stlmomof2 have you tried lined leggings? I just bought some mid rise leggings by Lauren Conrad and they are amazingly comfortable. They aren't maternity but super stretchy and the band will go higher than your incision. You could also bring a blanket to wrap around yourself. Leaving the hospital is never a glamorous event. I say go comfy!

I live in South Dakota, so I get the worry about it being cold.  But unless you plan on making stops between the hospital and home, you won't freeze.  Just have your DH/SO/whoever is driving you home bring the car up close to the hospital doors so you spend as little time outside as possible.  Maybe even have a blanket to drape over your legs in the car.  Yoga pants or sweat pants really are so much more comfortable after a C-section, not just b/c of the incision, but for a lot of us there is a lot of body swelling in general.

I hope this made sense.  My 13-month old is "helping."

Yes! I bought a pair in every color. They aren't lined but are thicker than other leggings I've found. And I can wear them now, at 30+5 weeks. Bonus!
  • @katiedid0907 did you wear those Motherhood high-waisted underwear in the hospital or when you left?

  • I wore my husbands sweatpants home. He is 6'3 and I am 5'6, so I was able to pull the pants right over my stomach, to right under my boobs. No rubbing and I was warm. I plan on doing the same for this pregnancy too.

  • @happyandhopeful3 I didn't wear them until I got home but if I had them with me I would have. Anything rubbing against the incision (especially at first) is super uncomfortable so loose waist bands or high waisted stuff is really nice.
  • FTM here...anyone planning on bringing outfits for baby since we'll be admitted for a few days? If so, how many?
  • I brought just the going home outfit and a few hats that I like for him. My hospital provides the kimono tops so I'm not bringing anything else.
  • I brought a going home outfit for my girls and I highly recommend comfy outfit to go hone for mom :) I wore mesh panties home from hospital with yogas. DH pulled car right up to door so I didnt care much about temp.
  • My hospital doesn't suply babies clothes- (or anything else) they said you need 2 sets for each day you will be admited and a spare. (I'm having a 5 day stay- I don't even have 11 sets- so im getting my husband to do a wash for me)
