After baby comes - Netflix/other time fillers when tired?

For when after the baby comes, what do you have queued up on Netflix/prepared for keeping you occupied when you're tired but need some "background" or to keep yourself awake/occupied (eg while the baby is feeding, but not just then).

I'm thinking I'll pick up a couple new novels as well - I may not touch them for months, but I may end up with snippets of time where I'm bored and want to read them.

What else can we prep/get ready for when we're tired but going a little stir crazy?

Re: After baby comes - Netflix/other time fillers when tired?

  • It's a great idea. With my first, I read the whole Sookie Stackhouse series
  • Loading the player...
  • With DD2, I re-read the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I even got the books on CD from the library for when I was breastfeeding. It was perfect.

  • I have no plans for fillers with two on the way.
I'm guessing I'll be doing laundry, cleaning, dishes, sleeping or giving our fur babies attention.
  • Omg I want Netflix suggestions too(my kindle will def come in handy when I want to read but can't get to the store)z
The unbreakable kimmy Schmidt is light and hilarious -it's a Netflix original.
  • My husband and I just finished Narcos. Definitely recommend it! I sell Jamberry as a fun little hobby so I think I'll just keep doing that in my spare time.
  • With DS I watched a lot of Parenthood and played video games. This time I imagine any freetime will go to him but to keep my sanity maybe some iZombie or something else occationally.
  • Lol what are time fillers with a baby?! I'll be trying to catch up on my sleep, cleaning, preparing meals, making grocery lists or helping my 6 year old with homework.
  • I probably read about 4 or 5 books a month so I plan on rereading the entire Harry Potter series, just for s&g's. I was planning on watching the entire series of Gilmore Girls when I got pregnant last year but, unfortunately, lost that baby and watched it anyway. I've been wanting to watch Parenthood, even though I've seen spoilers on how it ends. I am also curious about the Sookie Stackhouse series, does it follow the show close?

  • @neanerbeaner4 the Sookie Stackhouse series follows closely with the first 2 books, semi with the 3rd, and then starts to diverge from the tv series with the 4th. But it is excellent!

I found that during breastfeeding, those times when the baby wants to be held but you can't walk around anymore, and then they are sleeping and you just can't fall asleep but you are tired I needed something to help me relax a bit....I just assume those are the times she is talking about.

I'm surprised this idea seems new to you. I've heard its pretty common to be awake at odd hours, bored and tired while breastfeeding or insomniac. I guess some personality types just welcome the quiet though - I'm sure that some of us can just use a quiet moment, especially if you have a 6 year old :)

Going from 50-60 hour work weeks to being at home is going to be a giant jump and I'm a bit nervous about the change of pace. "Netflix" is the one constant I've heard is useful. I'm just trying to garner a few more creative ideas.

I like the "books on CD" idea put forward! I think the library has lots of those.

  • I like this list. I don't want cleaning and napping to be my only options. I'm with you on the work thing - I'm used to being in an office so being home is always a big shift. With my daughter I got so depressed my therapist sent me back to work to resolve it (worked great). I'm worried that might happen this time too. We shall see what happens now that there's 2 - the logistics are getting tough with one aging out of daycare (9) and one to go in.

I was thinking Netflix for late night sessions - love NCIS and British Crimea dramas. Simple art projects/crafts for other times - painting, crochet, etc. has to be something I can put down easily and restart.
  • I watched the entirety of the oc and the office when my little was little. She was a marathon feeder and there's only so many ways to be productive while tied to the couch with your boobs out! This time she's five and so now I'm preparing more things to keep her busy instead of me busy.
  • I will be rewatching Summer Heights High and Little Britian

  • Parenthood is the best show ever! the series is over so it should all be on netflix.
  • I'm planning to watch greys anatomy from the start and then parenthood. I've got mat leave time to fill up before baby arrives too!
  • There are some down moments, but if you have older children to attend to, they are fewer and far between. With my first I had a lot of time to just soak in the snuggles, watch entire seasons on netflix and read for those first few months. When my second was born - that was out the window. Those snuggles/nursing sessions were done in a wrap while I attended to my house and toddler. I am trying to fathom how to do it with 3 under 5, but my husband is more now. I am hoping I'll be able to enjoy that fleeting newborn snuggle stage a bit more from bed this time. In silence. Ha ha.
  • Madame Secretary is a great series on Netflix.  Hubby and I have both been watching it and he really likes it as well.
