Paranoid???

My husband and I went to the doctor and had an ultrasound at 7 weeks. We were told there was only one heartbeat. While my mother was pregnant with me she had a miscarriage, she learned after the miscarriage that it was actually twins and here I am today. 3 separate family members on my husbands side (not knowing that fact) have had dreams that we are having twins. One of those family members doesn't even know we are pregnant.

I'm am so paranoid when we go at 16 weeks for the next ultrasound we will find two babies! Someone please tell me I am simply paranoid!!! Or is there honestly a chance of it?

    They would have found 2 gestational sacs (at a minimum, likely also 2 embryos at 7 weeks) on the ultrasound if you were having twins. If they didn't find two sacs, it's virtually impossible to have twins coming up at the next appointment. Sorry but your family's dreams are just that, dreams.

    Eta-the only time you hear about finding extra babies is with higher order multiples. It can be hard to keep track of which you've for sure counted once you're over 3 babies so occasionally, one doesn't get counted. With a singleton, that simply doesn't happen.

    What other PPs said, also, you have to remember that the technology that was used on your mom was decades ago. While technology today is so much better and a high probability of finding twins. You're being paranoid. Dreams are dreams.

    Pregnancy paranoia is the best isn't it? 

    Also not to sound rude but what's wrong with having twins? There is much worse news than can be had at 16 weeks. Sure it's stressful but in my book I'm like the more babies the better ;)

    I'm going to agree and say you're paranoid. With both sets of our twins, our doctor found them all under at under 6 weeks. Even though they are small, they're pretty hard to miss on an ultrasound.
