Re: Weekly fit mama check in

  • I'm not doing so well considering I can hardly post let alone get myself to the gym.

I saw my midwife yesterday and between what I gained with my DS and DD we have decided 25lbs is a reasonable gain for me so I'm trying to stay with that number.

Biggest obstacles are 24/7ms and a very busy work schedule. Can't wait to start feeling better!!
However I am Dancing a lot in my current show so at least I get in a fair amount of exercise during rehearsals

  • I've been trying, ugh. I was so good the first few weeks! Going on week 3 of miserable MS, think I got moving 3-4 times this week...my goal is to wake up feeling like a human again! And at least go for a walk with my family today:)

  • I've lost all motivation to do anything. I haven't run in over a week, but I did manage to lift twice.

I've set a goal of no weight gain for the first tri. Hopefully I'll have more energy next week. :(

  • Hey, you're way ahead of me, @Wyattnash00! All I've done today is buy running shoes... Hopefully I use them before they disintegrate from old age.

  • Although I feel bad we are all struggling, I'm glad I'm not alone! I'm a power lifter and haven't been in the gym in a month and a half. I have some pre existing health probs which make those first trimester symptoms much more complicated. I weighed myself today and have dropped which sucks bc my shape has changed and I'm losing all that muscle I've worked so hard for! I promised myself Monday I'm back on track since MS is lessening a bit. C'mon ladies, we got this! As long as we are patient with our bodies :)
  • With traveling I haven't done much lately but I want to get back on track this weekend. I've felt pretty good otherwise so I really have no excuses. I weighed myself this morning and was up 4 lbs in 5 days! I'm hoping it's just bloat and constipation.

  • Hi! New to the check-in but I'll try to show every week. I finally worked out this past Wednesday- I went to a drop-in adult ballet class. My calves felt fine during class but are so tight and achy now! Lots of rélèvé and hold, and jumping!

This week my goal is to go again on Wed or Thu, and before then to at least do some home core exercises. I'm also trying really hard to drink enough fluids, but I've been having a hard time keeping up. I'd also like to work out at least one more time this week.

The morning sickness has been a daily struggle though!
  • I ran a half marathon last weekend, but haven't run since :/ Between being in back to back Tech Rehearsals for our shows and pregnancy exhaustion, I haven't had the urge to run. And I'm gaining weight so fast... Arrrrgh!!!
  • @26pointrunningfor2 are you an actor too?!

  • Hey, I am 10 weeks pregnant, and new to the check in, but pretty on point with my workout. I work out from Mon to Frid, early in the morning before work. I run, do sit ups, push ups. I sometimes feel so sick but try to finish the workout. I am in a group of all first trimester moms, we are all competitive too lol. I am not against some healthy weight too, but as soon as I hit my 2nd trimester, I will feel much better hope so.
  • I was able to run twice this week- 2.7 then 2.5 miles. I was hitting 3 pretty regularly before getting ku so I think thats pretty good. Goal of no weight gain first tri is going well despite allll the candy last weekend
  • @jerseybroadwaybaby Costume Designer! But I teach a university, so it's the tech rehearsals of my students currently :)

  • I'm 7 weeks now and doing decently- I've been doing 30 min in the a.m. from M-F.
Mostly dvd's- T25, and Tracey Anderson Method, but I usually crap out with that after 45min.  I start to feel a bit nauseous and in need of breakfast.

I did watch my husband run the Dublin marathon a few weeks ago... does that count?  :) Cheering is tiring!  I've run three myself and am happy to be not training at the moment.

Really trying hard not to gain in the first tri, but the nausea will only be abated by carbs... we'll see how we go.

  • I'm struggling again this week :( I did a 6 mile off road run last weekend but during the week only 1 swim and 1 gym session! Swam this morning and will run tomorrow.

I'm just finding it so hard to exercise after work - before getting ku I used to train everyday after work, sometimes before work too - so I'm feeling like a huge fat lazy blob right now. Just hoping I can do more in 2nd tri :) no idea if I've actually gained weight (don't keep scales in house as I've struggled with eating in the past) but aiming for no weight gain this tri if possible. Clothes still fit so assume I'm doing ok....
  • Bag is packed for gym time tomorrow!! DD can't go with me on Sundays so I'll need to find a sitter for an hour. If I can put the sncks down for long enough to lift :)

  • Hi all! New to this whole pregnancy thing but definitely like the idea of checking in to keep up with workouts. I am a triathlete and very used to staying in shape. I am currently having an opposite problem. Last month I started training for a half Ironman with a coach. I have workouts 7 days a week. Luckily since I found out it has been an easy recovery week but next week starts harder, longer and 2 a  day workouts. My exercise is tracked via Garmin uploaded to a program. I am not ready to tell my coach yet because it is so early (7 weeks) and he is also part of my circle of friends. Not sure how to handle the workouts. I can go easier on some of them and fake a cold when he sees the data, but others will be more difficult, especially the weekend long runs. Should I fake an injury or just ignore the program and see what he says?
    Any thoughts?
  • I've been super sick too. Finally got some relief since week 8...been getting on the elliptical or a long power walk. Only 3xs a week, but better than nothing. Was doing spin and started bleeding after so I stopped, then MS kicked up and took two weeks off.
  • @paigeystuff - I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm a marathoner, and as soon as I hit 6 weeks, my body starting telling me to slow down. Of course, I have a number of training partners who also happen to be friends. I find that these people- coaches, training partners- figure it out almost immediately. All I had to say was that I was dropping Ragnar from my race schedule and everyone knew (probably because I was also struggling on formerly easy runs). I had even signed on to pace my other races at slower times in hopes of throwing people off longer when my race times went down sharply! If I were you, I'd just tell my coach and demand secrecy. It will be very hard to feign illness or injury without the coach and training partners asking a bunch of questions. If your coach knows, there won't be any questions. It's just my two cents, because I found it impossible to hide the news from my fellow runners. Good luck!!
  • @paigeystuff one of my friends is also a triathlete and she told me she found the 1st tri the worst for both her pregnancies but she ended up training and racing up til 8months. She's told me to listen to my body and train accordingly so I will say same to you. I'm not ready to tell my other training buddies yet so have been making a variety of excuses (injury, busy at work, virus, hungover (!)) to explain my poor performances ... :)
  • I love the idea of a hungover excuse when we can't drink! Though the 1st trimester feels like a hangover to me anyways.
  • I am very active but morning sickness has kicked my butt since week 6. I am 8 weeks now and still struggling. Hope it gets better soon!

Ahh I'm so glad I found this thread! I too am a competitive powerlifter/bikini bodybuilder. I was training for me next PL meet when I found out I was pregnant (now 9w2d). I've taken the last month off because my MS and fatigue have been so bad and I too am dropping weight! Which makes me super sad because I know it's my hard earned muscle :( Really banking on this whole "symptoms relieve at around 12 weeks" thing so I can get my butt back on a serious training program!
  • Hi! I'm new to the check in also, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone struggling with the first trimester symptoms. I was working out 6x/week up until about 4 weeks ago. I just couldn't take the nausea and vomiting during workouts anymore . Plus I was doubly exhausted for the rest of the day
  • OK I've been too intimidated by the name of this thread to check in but it looks like we're all in a similar boat here, lol. I do taekwondo and run...in theory. I did a 25k trail run early in my pregnancy (when I didn't know I was pregnant) and it was sooo hard and I haven't run since. Managed to get back to taekwondo but I fell behind because I missed a bunch due to a running injury and then pregnancy illness. I have black belt testing in just over one week - I'll be 10 weeks! Probably crazy to do it anyway but it took me so long to recover physically from my first pregnancy, I'm not wanting to wait until after this baby is born! So I have to find a way to actually train properly for the next week...blergh.
  • Just got back into working out after taking 5 weeks off. I used to go 3xs a week & workout with a trainer. This week I worked out arms on Monday & today focused on legs. Did some lunges & squats with 10 lb weights then switched over to leg machines with light weight (about half of what I was doing before I found out I was pregnant). I end my workout with 20 mins walking on the treadmill with some incline. I felt great during the workout, but my mind kept switching into paranoid mode. Now I can't help, but be really worried. I keep feeling as if I'm starting to cramp & I feel really anxious. Advice?

That workout sounds totally without risk. You're fine! You might just be feeling sore because your joints around your pelvis/hips are loosey-goosey from pregnancy and get sore easily. Early miscarriages are generally because of an inherent problem with the embryo, not because Mama worked out. You're not putting yourself at risk by continuing your exercise routine. The only potential risk is if you severely overheat yourself which it definitely doesn't sound like you did.
  • Hi I would love to join all in the fit journey. I've always been overweight And I'm short to make matters worse. I've been on a weight loss journey for 6 months and lost 20 lbs when I found out I was pregnant. I am a FTM I'm working hard on trying to continue my workouts but I just feel so exhausted that it's hard to push and it's so hard to eat well when i can barely stomach anything. My first ob appointment is next Tuesday. Feeling very nervous for it
