Anyone worried about going back to work?

We have several weeks left, but I'm already sad about returning to work. I can't imagine working full time with a newborn who wakes up all throughout the night, I can't picture getting Baby and myself packed up and out the door by 6:00AM. It all just seems impossible right now. Sometimes I think about things with the baby like getting involved in Mommy groups and think. "oh, I would do that if I weren't going back to work." Getting childcare figured out is another hurdle.
Anyone else worried about going back to work?

Re: Anyone worried about going back to work?

  • Yes definitely! I can't imagine having time to do it all and on such little sleep. Plus I'm really nervous about pumping at work and keeping up my supply. I'm a teacher and really only have one "break" in the middle of the day which I usually have students in to help them. I'll have to make sure I put time aside without students and pump before and after school, as well. It sounds impossible and exhausting.

  • I'm right there with you! I can't keep up with everything now, don't know how I will when I'm away from home 12 hrs each day between work and my commute. The good news is that LO will be 3 months by the time I go back and should be a little more settled. Good luck to all of us!

  • It's going to be hectic. I have to be to work by 5 am, thank goodness I only drive 3 miles. My husband will have to drop LO off at day care though. That makes me nervous LOL. But just like everything, you'll figure it out as you go though I'm nervous too. Pumping at work will be interesting. I work primarily work with men so I feel some what embarrassed though I know I shouldnt.

Lurker here. This is my biggest fear. I also teach and I barely have time to eat lunch. We have very little support (aids) and there isn't a private room in any building. I may resort to the janitor's closet. Best of luck to you!!
  • I also am a teacher and have zero private areas to pump in. I am not going back til after winter break but it is definitely a huge stressor! Part of me keeps trying to figure out if we financially can not have me return to work until next school year. :/
  • Absolutely. I'm returning tomorrow after 4 weeks although I negotiated a flexible and gradual return to work. My supervisor talked to HR about securing one of the small conference rooms for expressing milk (I'm in the main office and I think this is the first time it has ever been requested). I'm so nervous about leaving baby, but I have to get back. There are 7 of us who were expecting this fiscal year, and two of us are returning tomorrow (we are all at different locations because we are a non-profit with several shelters). I'm creating a support group for all 7 of us as we are all first time mommies.
  • I am a teacher and legally your work place must provide you with a place to pump not including a bathroom.
  • I started a thread a couple days about about preparing to return to work/day care. I got a few good suggestion from BTDT moms :) search it out and check their ideas!
  • And that's why I'm not going back! I was supposed to go back this Friday and was hoping for another two weeks but that was not the case. I started sobbing at the thought of leaving my baby with a babysitter....thankfully my husband and I are good financially at the moment so I can stay home and hopefully get back to working by January :) I do not regret quitting mainly because my manager was a big b and I know I'm going to love this extra bonding time with my baby girl.
