Third Trimester Bleeding??

Hi Ladies,

Curious if any of you have experienced any bleeding that isn't mucus plug or anything cervical?

Yesterday, when I wiped after peeing, I noticed bright red (slightly orange because mixed with urine) watery blood on the toilet paper. I wiped a few more times and it was gone, put on a pad and no more blood was coming out.

Doctor said to go to labor and delivery because it wasn't mucus-y but watery. Everything checked out fine there - spontaneous contractions, 1 cm dilated, no vaginal blood at all. They also couldn't find any microscopic blood in the urine sample.

Got back home, and it happened again while wiping after peeing but I was able to notice (I think) that it was coming through urethra and not vagina. Called again and on call doctor told me to stay on bedrest and call this morning to check on urine culture (possibly UTI?).

Anyways, it's afternoon now and they still don't have results and it's going into the weekend so I'm just a bit concerned. Blood in urine at this point isn't a great sign, no? I'm 34 weeks 2 days. Also been feeling some cramping (like very very mild menstrual) in pelvic region and towards lower back and upper thighs. But it's very mild.

Anybody experience blood in urine this late? If so, what did it end up being? Just thought I would check in here and see your experiences while I wait for doctor to call back!

Thanks ladies!

Oh just adding it wasn't amniotic fluid they tested for that and baby has good amount

  • I think kidney infections sometimes result in bloody urine too.

  • I had a kidney infection a few years back and had blood in my urine. I also had pretty severe pain that started from zero and intensified to excruciating in the course of an afternoon-evening. If you start to feel twinges when you pee, go to the hospital (don't be stubborn like me) because it may get worse quickly and it will take time for anything they give you to take effect. I hope you get answers and feel better soon!
Also, this is my personal experience from one kidney infection, I have no medical background so you may or may not want to rely on my advice.
  • I have no idea. But I would trust your gut and your doc? Did you recently have sex? I would say keep an eye on it and if it's more than a little to call again. Even kidney infections are painful and require treatment.
  • Echoing what pp's said. Keep us posted on your results.

  • I've had the same thing the past two days. But, I spotted from week 7 through about week 26 they think because of a polyp. So, I'm assuming it's the polyp acting up again. I also was thinking that maybe it was the bloody show?? But not sure how much blood that would be...
  • I keep having bleeding like that doctor & hospital can't figure out why the last time I went to the hospital they think it was because little one was in odd position & she was kicking the same spot which happen to be my placenta blood flow look good so they didn't seem worried but I had some bleeding yesterday as well they said as long as she moving and there's no more bleeding not to worry. .... how can you not.. tired of going to the hospital and sitting there for hours just to be sent home saying nothing wrong.
  • This happened to me last pregnancy. I had the smallest amount of spotting when I would wipe around 33 weeks. I went in and got checked by my OB. TMI but when he checked he felt a large amount of pressure/tightness. I was put on modified bed rest and within a week there was no more spotting and he didn't feel the same pressure/tightness when he checked the following week. He kept me on notified bed rest until 36 weeks though. There was never really an official cause of mine. I taught second grade at the time and hadn't slowed down so I think I was just pushing my body too much.
