Meds for MS

Hi. I'm 8 weeks and for the last 4 my MS has been unbearable. My doctor prescribed me a medication that my insurance company denied (awesome) so the second choice is phenergan. Has anyone else taken this? I've read mixed reviews online. I'm also trying acupuncture but my MS is so bad. I'm bed ridden 6/7 days (missed my acupuncture session this morning) and I'm losing my mind. Im pretty petite and I have a hard time putting on weight anyway w/out this ms problem. Just curious as to what any of you ladies might have to say about it. I trust my doctor but I guess I just want a bit more feedback. Thanks in advance.

Re: Meds for MS

  • I take unisom totally safe. Not sure if your way past this stage.

  • I'm taking half a B6 and half a unisom tab up to three times a day. It is helping for now. I just upped it to three times a day. At first I was only taking it at bed time which helped my mornings a lot but it has gotten so much worst that I need it to function and get out of bed.
  • I'm so sick I too was give pheneregan and it has not worked for me! I'm throwing up at less 10-15 times a day! I feel like I'm going to die!!! I'm so done tonight!!!
  • I was in the hospital yesterday getting iv fluids and nausea medicine and they gave me Phenergan. I just took my first pill 10 minutes ago, so I'll let you know!

  • Okay, so it took about 20 minutes for the medicine to take away the nausea, which was amazing, duh. But about an hour later I was fighting sleep soooooo hard. I'm so glad that I took it before my daughter's nap so I could sleep with her. If you aren't a SAHM, i wouldn't take it during the day! Maybe a little before bedtime.

  • My doctor also prescribed me phenegran but every time I have taken it, I've gone to sleep less than an hour later... I get very drowsy on it, they also warned me not to drive while taking it so it's out for daytime use... :( I've heard Zofran is amazing but now they say it causes birth defects so I've just basically suffered through it...
Also if you take unison & B6 does it make you sleepy? cause I've been wanting to try it but didnt know....

  • My OB just prescribed me Diclegis (B6 and unisom). Apparently this is completely safe with no side effects for me or baby. I was prescribed Zofran with my first and it DID work wonders. My OB said they do not prescribe Zofran unless you are in the hospital, unable to hold even water down.

I use Unisom + B6 at night and it helps. I notice a HUGE difference when I don't take it.
  • Just know that there are at least two versions of Unisom - each with different active ingredients.  From the research I've done, I think you're supposed to take the doxylamine.  I'm emailing the Dr to be sure.  It's what I've taken the last 3 nights.  I can hardly function without it.  Good luck.  Nausea is so tough.  This too shall pass.

  • I'm on day two of Diclegis and it has been a game changer for me. I was out of the office for three days before this. Now I'm actually eating food sometimes.

YES! Do NOT take the one with diphenhydramine.
  • Did you receive an a see from Doctor?

  • Just switch it immediately to the one with doxylamine.
  • Originally I was prescribed diclegis but my insurance said no way. Total bs to veto a class a drug and then tell me all I can get is a class c. I've been taking the phenergan and it seemed to help a bit but all I do is sleep now. Today the vomiting started again. And it was violent. I go back to my ob this coming wed. Going to keep on it until then but I'm not sure it's helping enough to take on all the risk. Thanks for the feed back ladies. So ready for this first trimester to be over but I'm terrified my ms is going to last forever. Feeling like crap all the time is making me super depressed.
  • I was prescribed Diclegis today. Can't wait to start it. My midwife also gave me samples and a card that will never make my prescription cost higher than 30.00 for it. Maybe ask your docs if they have that?

  • ^update! I took the Diclegis last night before bed as directed and have had no nausea today! I'm beyond happy to get off the 24/7 queasy train!!!

  • I know I have posted this before but definitely try sea bands alongside other treatments. You can wear them all day and night and they really helped me a lot! Hope you get some relief soon!
  • With each pregnancy I have had horrible m/s. I have literally tried everything under the sun. With my second, my dr prescribed zofran and it worked wonders. Zofran is working for me again this time. However, I have never been hospitalized due to m/s and have gotten it. Just ask your dr. That is what they are there for. If your doctor doesn't think it's right for you, ask for alternatives.
