GTKY- What are you cooking??

I'm assuming I'm not the only one struggling with food aversions/not wanting to cook! However, I would like to do something nice for my husband tonight.

So... What have you guys cooked recently that hasn't made you sick? Meat is my main aversion right now which make this even harder!!

I'm also open to great ideas of what to order ;)

Re: GTKY- What are you cooking??

  • Ugh.  I am not the right person for this.  I would advise buttered noodles. :-)

  • I also can't be of much help. The only thing I've made this week that I've been able to eat was plain pasta. I made stuffed acorn squash on Monday with such good intentions, but that didn't go over well & now even the thought of it is revolting to me. Lack of ambition & an aversion to pretty much everything has made meal planning so difficult this week. Good luck! If you come up with something great, please share! :)

  • I don't know the last time I made something besides a bagel with butter... Seriously struggling! I just feel bad having the day off and DH coming home to a dirty house and no dinner :\">

  • We do "Blue Apron" and last night one of the recipes was SO DELICIOUS I could've eaten twice my portion! It was pork meatballs in butter lettuce cups with a soy glaze... SO YUMMY! Here's the recipe if you're interested!

  • We had chilaquiles last night. So far no food aversions but I'm sure that will change soon.
  • I'm with everybody on the buttered bagels; but, if you're looking for something meatless and semi-nice for dinner, you could always make a pasta primavera with just an olive oil sauce and veggies and cheese.  It would be easy to make, hopefully without making you gag, and would be simple enough to not mess up a rough stomach?

  • I am currently drinking a weight loss shake because it's the only thing in my house I can stomach at the moment so I'm no help lol. Maybe try a meatless pasta dish? Alfredo?

  • I think I'm lucky.... I only have aversions to left overs that look weird... So I've made yellow coconut curry, one-pot tomato basil pasta (can't eat those leftovers....) homemade rice a roni with chicken. Husband made shredded chicken enchiladas with a sour cream sauce and those were amazing.

  • I've been a terrible wife with the cooking. Today I went to one of those places you can make a bunch of meals and freeze them! I almost threw up a couple times putting meals together but at least my hubs will be fed again! I'll watch him eat as I'm enjoying my frosted flakes :D

  • I strongly suggest putting the crockpot to use. If smells are bothering you, set it up on your back porch so it can run all day and not stink up the house. This has been my saving grace. If I don't see or smell the food all day, then I can eat it for dinner.

I had some really bad meat aversions but found I felt better after eating it. My biggest issue was with smelling it cook. By the time it was done, I wanted to do nothing but curl up in the bathroom by myself.
  • Does heating up a frozen pizza count as "cooking"?
  • Take out has been my BFF. But I've been making mild things, like soup, sandwiches, rice, quiche, etc. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well enough to cook! Eat what sounds good to you, and know it won't last forever!

  • I agree with @CopperLane. Unless you're like me and can't stand the smell of the crock pot itself! I'll have to try putting it outside, that's a good idea.

  • Nothing.  Absolutely nothing in more than 2 weeks.  And I'm normally a pretty serious cook, and .  I haven't even been packing the kids' lunches - they've been doing it (thank God).  I shudder to know what's in them.  No wonder my son has been complaining of a stomach ache all week.  Bad mommy award for me.  Oh well.  This too shall pass.
  • Stuffed peppers with ground turkey and quinoa went over surprisingly well last night.
I was thinking it was going to be a disaster because the smell of the turkey cooking at the beginning wasn't doing anything for my stomach.

Taco bell seems to be going over okay too ;)

  • If you're looking for something meatless, I have recently made veggie soup (tons of veggies and beans to be filling) with warm, crusty bread on the side or sweet potato vegetarian chili (sweet potatoes, black beans, canned tomatoes, onion, broth, spices).

The crockpot ideas also get my vote!

I was worried about squirrels getting into my crockpot outside, but no issue with that yet. I guess BBQ chicken is beneath them :P
  • OMG such A good call for a post!!!!!
  • I'm making chicken pot pie it sounds good now, we will

The lid on mine locks for travel, so I suppose it would keep squirrels out too lol

  • Tonight homemade pizza. Sunday I made a delicious enchilada soup in the crockpot, which did me in. It was good, but for days i couldn't deal the garlic smell on my hands from chopping. Tonight is the first time I've cooked since then.

  • I like making bean and cheese tostadas. Just tostada shells, refried beans and cheese! Sour cream, tomatoes and olives if you want to get crazy. Green onion and avocado if you really want to show off.

DH is currently cutting up a pizza I put in the oven.

  • DH had been cooking for me since I've been so fatigued when I get home from work. He's a great cook and so understanding. He made baked ziti the other night and I could have eaten the whole dish. He also made a vegetable enchilada pie bake from budget bytes that was really good. We went it out pizza tonight and caved to my cravings. I haven't really had MS, just crazy hunger.
  • The thought of crockpot smell or taste is mAking me ill! Rice went over quite well for me this week. Cheeseburger was fine for some reason this afternoon. Steak on the grill was also ok for me. anyone else feel sick AFTER they eat?
