Rib pain..very tender.. 38wks

So yes I have contacted my doctor and they're going to call me back and try and get me in today, but I was wondering if any of you ladies are finding your LO going up instead of down!?
Mine is wedged into my ribs so bad these past few days that my side and the area below my ribs is constantly buldged and very tender! I've tried walking and a bounce ball and he will drop back down, but within minutes he's right back up there once I stop. It's starting to make it a bit hard to breathe and I can't keep anything down because him being so high is causing such bad heartburn that I throw up almost any time I eat. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

  • Sounds awful. Have you tried hands & knees? Cat/cow poses?

  • My LO moved back up too. Try putting heat or ice there so he moves away from it.
  • I have this same problem, just not as bad. Put an ice pack where you don't want her to be, and heat where you do want her to be. I read something where they will move towards the heat and away from the cold! Hope things get better!

  • No advice but I'm there too.  She's breech, and her head is right under my ribs on the left side.  She seems to think its the way out, too, since her un-born baby brain thinks its appropriate to periodically push really hard right there.  If I lay on my right side, she slides down a bit to relieve the pressure, and I'm just eating small meals and living on Pepcid and Tums for the heartburn.  Hope your doc calls back and offers some help!
  • Mine keeps his legs and feet under my ribs and it gets very painful.
I agree with hands and knees and cat/cow poses. And Google the spinning babies pelvic tilt move. That one helps too.
They have some daily exercises that can help baby engage the right way.
  • I have tried positions on my hands and knees. I heard back from my dr office and they told me there's nothing they can do about it :( only to take Tylenol for the pain and if it gets too much worse or I can't get my daily kicks in then go to l&d. I will try the heat and ice idea and hopefully that will help. I'll try and find some ideas online to get him down as well.
  • Walking may help as well. Whenever I walk for more than 10 or 15 min, baby moves way down and I get tons of pelvic pressure.

  • If this pain is on the upper right quadrant of your abdomen, it could be a sign of preeclampsia!!

Oh joy...It's from the center of my chest and across my right side... The nurse I spoke to seemed very unconcerned so if that is a possible sign I'm gona flip some crazies on her if I end up with it!
  • I've had a lot of this as well. Ice works better for me than heat & some days are worse than others. I find that if I raise my right arm over my head & arch my back, sometimes that gets the baby to move/creates a little more space. Has your baby dropped yet? I found the rib pain is less frequent since he's dropped.

The arm raising worked at first but I have such a tiny frame and torso that he doesn't really have enough room to drop. My sister and mom both never really dropped either. :/
  • Have you had any abdominal muscle pain, in addition to the aching ribs?

I occasionally have a sharp pain there but nothing consistent.
