Re: Weekend Ticker Change 11/7-8

  • Week: 19/mango

Symptoms: Braxton hicks are up and running full force - not excited for 21 weeks of that.

Rants/Raves/Stories: DH finally felt LO kicking up a storm last night! Can't wait to get to know sex as it makes it so much "realer" for DH. Plus then we can talk names more intentionally :)

    Upcoming Appointments: a/s next Thursday!

    Questions?

    GTKY- favorite family tradition:
In our little family - we make an annual time capsule ornament for the tree each year and a Shutterfly "yearbook". I love the idea that 30 years from now having the tree be completely decorated in our favorite memories.

  • 15 weeks/orange

Symptoms: none other than heartburn, occasional migraine, and severe sciatica

Rants/raves/stories: every pay day I find myself at Target spending entirely too much time and too much money there. I can't help it, I love target!

Upcoming appts: I have a general check up on the 11th, if baby cooperates it might be possible to tell the sex. But I'm not banking on it. I just want to hear the heartbeat to make sure everything is A-ok. The week leading up to appts I always freak out and get paranoid that I'll be finding out bad news.

Questions? what sort of maternity leave options does your work provide? And what will you do to try to make up for the income loss?

Family traditions: hmm I guess our family tradition would be Polynesian dancing: hula, Tahitian, Samoan, Tongan, Maori. My grandmother danced, my mom danced, I dance, my sister dances. I started dancing when I was 5 and started participating in competitions when I was 9. I plan on continuing our culture with my LO dancing whether I have a boy or girl.
  • Week: 15/Orange (tomorrow)

    Symptoms: Nothing

Rants/Raves/Stories: My mom took all my kids for the weekend and the dh is working out of state, so I'm here, alone.  I had to call 911 last night because this guy was definitely strung up on drugs. He was walking all over the road and my yard, and kept coming at me. He was totally invading my bubble.  I was actually freaked out enough to pull my gun out.  He almost got hit by a car, which is why I called (I was in my car by this point). I followed him up the road and flashed cars that came by so they wouldn't hit him.  The cops never did show up.  But some chick pulled over, got out of her car, put the guy in it, and drove off with him.  He looked like a damn zombie from a movie. I was like, figures this happens when I'm alone.

Upcoming Appointments: Just had an appointment on Thursday. Baby is doing great! And we're pretty sure it's a boy.  I seriously thought girl.  My next appointment won't be until January.

GTKY- favorite family tradition: We really don't have traditions.  Our families are so big that we're always pulled in so many directions and have never really had time to establish them.  I would love to, though.  I really like your memory tree @mrstrax
  • Never too late @SweetBriarBee! That's one reason I love the ornaments - I can do it anytime we're home :) My family traditions are pretty laid back too. We always got pajamas from "Mrs. Claus" on Christmas Eve because my mom had an embarrassingly placed hole in hers in their Christmas morning pictures one year, etc. Dad's family gets together to camp each summer but that's about it.

  • I'm week 16 starting tomorrow, and this is my first baby. I am surprised ad how fast it seems to be going!

As for symptoms, I was in SO much pain in my legs last night after work that my bestie had to wheel me around Walmart for the hour we were there. It was so weird. Besides that O have had heartburn like nobodu's business... I say heartburn from hell because of how bad it hurts some days. Aside from that I just noticed I feel sick and/naseauted whenever I'm not eating. I hate it. I have to eat first thing in the morning or my whole day is thrown off.

I guess my only stories at this time are the annoying rants of heartburn and neasua. A few people that I was hoping would be supportive are not, but the ones that matter most are every step of the way with me! Ph, except my baby's grandma (her dad's mom). I say she just because it fits naturally for now. Anyway, the mom sent me a nasty little not on Facebook, and I'm not allowed over to their house. Apparently, because I had sex before marriage with her son, I am a harlot and using him. I just can't believe she would see me that way, when he is the first and only guy I have ever been with sexually. It hurts, but I'm more sad because in "disowning" me, she is losing out on a grandchild.

I'm having an appointment on the 11th, but I haven't had my blood work done from last month, so I feel terrible. I'm hoping to find out about water birth at this appt too. I am really leaning towards it if at all possible!
  • Week 16 / Avacado
Symptoms: still battling my breakouts. Just started with a bit of a cold yesterday just after I got my flu shot on Thursday which by the way has anyone else gotten theirs yet? This year I don't know what happened but it felt like someone socked me in my arm :/ still a little soar today.
Appointments: just was seen on Thursday. All looks great! Strong heartbeat of 150. Next appointment is dec 8 which is also my 20 week ultrasound -which hubby has decided he no longer wants to find out what we are having. Not sure I want to wait. I did it with our first but did not for 2 or 3.
Family tradition: one of my favorites is when we all get together the weekend after thanksgiving and put the tree up. I also have an open house every Christmas Eve for friends and neighbors to come in and enjoy appetizers and cocktails before family dinner. Then I re open the doors after dinner for hot chocolate and desserts
  • Week: 20/Banana
Symptoms: Stretchmarks have arrived! Also my boobs are practically turning blue from veins shows through... And, as per usual HORMONES FROM HELL!

Rants/Raves/Stories: My dad ran the Jingle Jungle 5k this morning, and is running his first half marathon tonight. I'm so proud of him! Also pretty jealous... I want to be at Disney and running again!

    Upcoming Appointments: none this week

Questions? Am in the only one who watches cooking shows and wants to cook EVERYTHING in their pantry???

GTKY- favorite family tradition: Well since I'm usually pulled in a bunch of different directions for holidays, I started making breakfast with just my fiancé a priority! I usually make eggnog, french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and coffee. I'm not sure I'm going to do it this year for Thanksgiving though, since I'm doing a Turkey Trot that morning, and I'm making us dinner. Ooooh! I just realized I can have him make breakfast! His pamcakes are what dreams are made out of \:D/
  • Week: week 18/sweet potato. Grow baby grow!

Symptoms: Back pain, heartburn, RLP from hell, weird earache, a way too healthy appetite and stretch marks all over.

Upcoming Appointments: I have my first meeting with the OB on the 9th. So excited to be "officially" pregnant :P Hoping we can schedule for my a/s soon.

    Questions? None this week.

    GTKY- favorite family tradition:

  • Week: 17/onion or iPhone as pregnant chicken suggests
    Symptoms: still throwing up, woohoo.
Rants/Raves/Stories: I'm starting to get my energy back!!!!!
Upcoming Appointments: 20 weeker and anatomy scan on the 2nd.
    Questions?
    GTKY- favorite family tradition:
We've had a Christmas elf since I was little who brings us matching Christmas Eve pajamas ever year.
  • Week: 19/mango

Symptoms: extreme fatigue - it's like the first trimester again and stretching down below as either my ligaments relax or my greedy uterus is pushing everything out.

Rants/Raves/Stories: had another anxiety scare this week - in the middle of going through the standard pregnancy risk assessments at work part of which means filling various HR/clinicians in on my previous medical history, unfortunately makes you relive it all again and brings back the worries.

Upcoming Appointments: on countdown until 20week scan wk after this one

GTKY- favorite family tradition: gosh there's quite a few..we all get together for the various religious festivals, all of which have their own traditions and as a family you create your own too. I'm very close with my family (both mine and my husband's) so appreciate the time we can spend together
  • @kalanieileen: I'm lucky to work for a big company meaning although it's long hours and they generally want their pound of flesh they're pretty good when it comes to additional benefits.
We're trying to really save now so when my maternity payments do stop it'll be tight but hopefully I'll be able to take the full year off with our baby before returning afterwards.
  • Week: 20!
    Symptoms: unending vaginal discharge (sorry)
Rants/Raves/Stories: This weekend has been full of adventure. The DH had Friday and Saturday off, so we've visited two malls we've never been to, went bowling like we've been meaning to forever, and we just finished up treating our best friend and their mother to dinner at our favourite restaurant :3
Upcoming Appointments: check in week after next
Questions? Multiple people want to host a baby shower, should I let them both because they're different social circles, or?
GTKY- favorite family tradition: Everyone bringing a homemade dish at Thanksgiving for dinner, after spending the morning decorating the house :3
  • Week: 15 wks

Symptoms: discharge, acne still, some spotting, oh and UTI which lead to yeast infection thanks to antibiotics

Rants/Raves/Stories: HB got his harley up and running finally...the other woman as i call it continues take up his time and our money. so much for saving for baby and bonding when im not too tired. He always wants to do stuff when im alread exhausted or spotting too much. I hate that bike!

    Upcoming Appointments: Nov 25

    Questions?none right now

GTKY- favorite family tradition: dont really have any my family cant even decide whos hosting thanksgiving.
  • Hey all, hope you don't mind me joining this week; there wasn't a Friday thread!

    Week: 17/onion

Symptoms: nausea was finally much better this week. No barfing! But my boobs are growing again and my face is still breaking out like crazy :(

Rants/Raves/Stories: nothing major this week other than symptoms. I'm really just trying to not buy every baby thing I see!

Upcoming Appointments: had one on Thursday and all looks good! Anatomy scan is coming up on the 20th.

    Questions? None this week.

GTKY- favorite family tradition: for Christmas, our family always opened one gift each on Christmas Eve. We are trying to do that with my stepsons, but we don't always have them that day so it's a little tough. We also always got to pick out an ornament every year, so when we moved out on our own we already had a collection started.

@kalanieileen, I have 6-8 weeks disability through work which will give me a similar take home pay as my regular paycheck since I pay for a more expensive policy (expecting just 6 weeks; 8 is for c-section). I'll also have about 3 weeks vacation & sick time saved up at that point. So that will leave about 3 weeks unpaid. That still is painful since I bring home significantly more than DH (he makes less and pays child support and alimony). We are working to save up now and have looked at our monthly budget to see what we can cut during the months I'm not working.

The part I'm more concerned about is the potential medical bills. Our insurance is crappy and the out of pocket max is 8k, so I'm pretty much planning on having to pay that. In good news, though, my coworker who recently had a baby said her bills came in much lower than she expected, so fx that is the case for us too!
    image
  • Well looks like we have a new tradition? Fiancé sent it to me...
  • Week: 15 / orange

Symptoms: RLP, calf cramps, headaches, sharp pains in the upper abdomen

Rants/Raves/Stories: I'm constantly tired (more like half-asleep) and hungry, but it's fun to see my belly swelling up. Speaking of pregnancy brain... I realized I have blind spots when driving- it was a close call last night driving home. I may consider not driving for a while until my constant fatigue passes.
I may change docs at the 5month mark. Hope they take me...! Anyone have experience?

Upcoming Appointments: Nov 16 with a new doc
    Questions?

GTKY- favorite family tradition: Since I only get to see them once or twice a year it's hard to say. Going on a trip or going out for a gourmet meal as a family is a special treat for us.

    Week: 18 (on Sunday)
Symptoms: tired, hormonal, and just this week, skin tags! I didn't realize those were a pregnancy thing until I googled it. So weird.
Rants/Raves/Stories: Not really anything. Boring week.
Upcoming Appointments: Ultrasound is this week! Hopefully baby will cooperate and we'll find out gender.
    Questions?
GTKY- favorite family tradition: On the day after Thanksgiving, we go to the beach. It's our little protest to Black Friday. We hit the beach for half the day, then go to this cute little town for dinner & hot chocolate. We've been doing it for the past 5 years and it's one of my favorite traditions!
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @AEG84 we were in a similar situation with our OoP Max, but we only pay 10% after the deductible, so we'd need total bill of $34,500 to hit our OoP. It's never bad to plan for more and be happily surprised, but I think with DD we paid closer to $5500 (~14,500 in total bills for prenatal, 2 nights and a vaginal delivery, after the bonus insurance deals) because we still had to pay quite a bit for DHs surprise appendectomy 6 weeks later (that was a party :-q ).

  • Week/Size: 16/Avocado .. "awwww thanks!"

Symptoms: Decreased appetite, RLP, congestion (may be seasonal though), still so much fatigue

Rants/Raves/Stories: Still raving over finding out #2 is a girl! Slightly ranting because I'm salary and work gave me a day off unplanned Friday (which itself was wonderful) then forced me to take PTO for it when I didn't even ask to have it off (which I'm trying to save for leave).

Appts: Anatomy scan on 12/10, I was happy to see how active baby was at my scan on Friday because DS was such a lazy, uncooperative dude during scans.

Questions?: I have a friend who is dead set on throwing me a shower for this baby. DS will be 5.5 when baby is born and she thinks since this one is of the opposite sex that it's a must. Second showers or "sprinkles" aren't uncommon here, but I'm still feeling like... nah. When she says "you NEED everything though" I'm thinking.. I know, but I am capable of paying for my child (as should everyone who has a baby IMO). Thing is, she is SO excited about the idea. I'm thinking of agreeing to a very intimate brunch with a handful of friends so that I won't hurt her feelings. I don't know what to do.

GTKY: Squeezing my entire family on my Mom's side (there's about 22 of us) into the living room of my grandparent's 700 sqft house on Christmas Eve and opening gifts and laughing is my favorite tradition/memory growing up. This will be the 2nd Christmas without my grandma there though and it it's just not the same anymore. :/

I'm trying not to let pregnancy hormones taken over about this, because I used to feel the same way about this, but saying that anyone who has a baby should pay for everything is pretty callus, and rude imo. Not every baby is planned, or in my case thought of as even a possibility (you can read my why baby now post on that thread) and finances are not secure for everyone. Under the "it's your baby, you should pay for everything" logic, I should have had an abortion, because there is NO way we are financially secure enough to get everything we need for a nursery. Do I expect a bunch of hand outs? No. Do I feel like it's anyone else's responsibility? No. Have I been having severe panic attacks over how we're going to survive with everything we'll need for LO? Yes. Just throwing it out there that every situation is different, and since nothing goes according to plan, a little less judgment would be advisable.

As far as your actual question, I think the brunch would be a lovely idea in your case. That way it's low key, and no one feels pressured to gift you anything.
  • @Knottie9983816 I have a hard time taking serious any advise to be "a little less judgmental" on a post that is neither judgmental nor about anybody but myself. My initial statement was neither callous nor rude - so I do think those pregnancy hormones are getting the best of you there. I don't take issue with first or second showers or any of that, and I know with my first who was not planned that we wouldn't have had everything I thought we "needed" and family and friends and our showers definitely helped us get by (although all you REALLY need is clothes/food/diapers/car seat/safe sleeping place and I fully expect that most mothers should be able to provide those items to their children and at that point I could certainly do that).

The point of my initial question was that she was saying that the fact that I "NEED EVERYTHING" was justification for a second shower and I don't think that it is as it's not right to expect other people to support my child, which was my choice. I am very familiar with anxiety during pregnancy and parenthood, FWIW, and I would never suggest somebody get an abortion because they cannot afford all of their baby gear. I would suggest that there are a lot of resources available to pregnant women who aren't able to afford what they need and I'd encourage you to explore those to help curb your anxiety as well.
  • Week: 18/sweet potato (YUM)
Symptoms: everything is uncomfortable all of the time. but definitely feeling movement!
Rants/Raves/Stories: i hope this kid is okay with being an only child because i don't think i ever want to do this again
    Upcoming Appointments: TUESDAY ULTRASOUND YAY
Questions? why is pregnancy so uncomfortable
GTKY- favorite family tradition: we're not big on tradition!

  • I actually have another question.. Many women have described their placenta as being anterior/posterior and what not. How do you know how your placenta is? Sorry if this is a total n00b question or a "what did your doc say" kind of response. I forget to ask when I'm there.

  • @mrstrax our coinsurance is 30% after a deductible of (I think) 3500. It's really high bc I cover our stepsons on my plan already (but not DH). I was so mad when they changed plans a few years ago; I used to pay more in premiums for a plan that had no coinsurance and now that's not even an option.

Until last year, DH had a plan thru work that had a maternity deductible of $500 with full coverage after that. I wish he could have stuck it out for financial purposes, but he was miserable at that job with no option for promotion, and got an offer somewhere else for a position he now loves, so...oh well.

OK yeah, I DEF overreacted this morning. I need a rule about Bumping in the morning when I'm already pissed about being awake... My bad!
  • @knottie9983816 it's all good, mama. ;) I'm not a morning person either even though I usually wake up at the buttcrack of dawn these days.
  • Week: Saturday was 17 weeks/Onion
Symptoms: Still getting heartburn if I am hungry, or if I eat too many carbs.
Rants/Raves/Stories: Went hunting this weekend with DH and his family - first time for me, which was exciting although I didn't tag out. They are still up there for the week, and I will go back next weekend... I can honestly say that as fun as it was... I'm so happy to be home! A toilet inside when I have to get up to pee in the middle of the night is SOOOO much better than bare assing and squatting in 30 degree weather! Oh man!
Upcoming Appointments: We have our a/s on the 30th! Did the elective last week to find out gender so that I can surprise my mom in person when I go visit for Thanksgiving...been so hard to keep it a secret, but it'll be worth it to tell her when I'm there!
Questions? None for me, but in response to yours: @kalanieileen my insurance has 15 days unpaid and then 12 weeks disability at 60%. I'm using my PTO for the 15 days, and just banking the rest of my paychecks. DH and I have looked at our finances and since we can comfortably live off just his paycheck I'll be staying home once my disability is over... the 60% will just be a nice rainy day nest egg, which is nice. Also with the placenta placement... my mom asked me where mine was, and I have no idea!! I plan on asking at my a/s appointment at the end of the month because now I'm curious!
GTKY- favorite family tradition: My favorite family traditions are: We get to open one gift on Christmas Eve, but then we have to go to bed right after! The other one is that we have a big family breakfast before we open presents on Christmas day... as a kid it was hard to wait, but the build of anticipation was so fun!! And as an adult, it's so nice to spend a little quiet time with family before the chaos of opening gifts!
  • A little late, but better than never, right?

    Week: 16, avocado or something.

Symptoms: Still mostly feeling fine. A little bit of the pregnancy rhinitis, and I had my first bad pregnancy mood swing, but otherwise quite lucky.

Rants/Raves/Stories: I am beginning to worry that my bump, when it finally gets here, is never going to catch up to my boobs. They're getting enormous. I'm starting to feel like a circus freak. On the plus side, my hair looks GREAT! I guess on balance I'm basically a Victoria's Secret model, albeit one who's going to be popping a belly any day now.

Upcoming Appointments: 11/12, just a general checkup and blood test. Dreading the needle, but getting to see her wiggle around in there should make it worth it.

Questions? Can somebody please tell this baby to please start kicking me already?

GTKY- favorite family tradition: Christmas with my grandparents, by far. My extended family isn't too big, and we each spend the entire year searching for the perfect gifts for one another; collaborating on Christmas surprises, and competing to "win Christmas" with the best present of the year. It can take a couple hours to exchange gifts, because unless someone brings out matching gifts, we all watch everyone open every present.  There are traditionally assigned seats (two aunts and older girl cousins on the left couch, men and older boy cousins on the right couch, grandpa in his recliner, always-cold aunt on the hearth in front of the fire, husband and I in front of the television, grandma handing out gifts, kids right up front helping her deliver them to the right people), and long-running jokes (you know you're an adult when Grammy tapes your clothes box shut on all four sides!). It's magical and filled with love and I can't wait for Christmas this year!

GTKY- favorite family tradition: Just the holidays in general. Bake using my grandma's recipe, decorate with my grandparents/ dad's holiday decorations. My daughter uses my advent calendar that I've had since I was 7.

Mine is as well!  She's obscenely thoughtful, and way too creative for her own good.  My greatest Christmas satisfaction ever was last year, when my husband out-gifted her during his very first family gift exchange appearance. He's hoping for a repeat victory, but I already know what she's getting him and he doesn't stand a chance.
  • Week: 17 weeks yesterday, pomegranate or PS3 game controller (hubby liked that one!)

Symptoms: sleepy all the time, RLP, want to eat everything in sight.

Rants/Raves/Stories: We had a beautiful baby shower for my sister yesterday and it was fun to see my extended aunts and cousins - can't wait to see them all again for mine next year! Also, being preggo with my sis is the absolute best!

Upcoming Appointments: anatomy scan on the week of thanksgiving

Questions? This is kind of random and I'll try to make it short. My brother-in-law's grandma is like an old-school 'healer' figure, was very popular in the small village she grew up in years ago...anyway, saw her this past weekend and she wanted to guess the gender of the baby (we are not finding out) and she asked me (away from everyone else) if I could lift my shirt so she could see my whole belly. I've known her a long time (although not well) so I didn't think much of it. I thought she was just going to look but before I knew it, she kinda put her hands on either of my sides and squeezed inward very firmly. I then stopped her but it all kinda happened so fast. Should I be worried? I feel like I can still feel where she squeezed me on my abdomen but I also think it could be that I felt so uncomfortable with the situation that I'm feeling paranoia and fear in a physical way. Any thoughts are appreciated.

GTKY- favorite family tradition: eating all of the food during the holidays!
  • @emgee27 I'd say nothing to worry about. Baby is really well cushioned in there and squeezing is a lot different than blunt force (seat belt in a car accident, falling etc) which is where there is some potential for injury or placental abruption.

Also, I now want to have lunch with your BILs grandma and hear her stories!

Thanks so much for chiming in! I feel like in the back of my head I know I'm being paranoid but I still feel weird about the whole thing! My husband and sister said the same thing, the baby is so well cushioned in there that I shouldn't worry.

You would have a GREAT lunch with her. Let's just say that woman has seen some things! Not to mention, she is possibly the strongest, sturdiest 82-year-old I have ever seen!
