Forgot my prenatals/folic acid!

I'm away from my house for a few days and forgot to grab my prenatal vitamins and folic acid. I had a few pills on me, so have been on a reduced dose for a few days. I'm at 14 weeks. Is it really bad for me to not be taking them for a few days?! I don't want to go to the store and have to buy a whole new expensive bottle just to tide me over, which may sound dumb, but don't want to be wasteful.

  • If you don't want to then I guess don't, but know they won't go to waste as you'll continue to take them until May and beyond if breastfeeding.

  • It's not like one bottle will last you the whole pregnancy. You just won't have to buy a new one for a while. If it's more than one day, I would buy more.

  • Buy some. You will use them and it won't go to waste.

  • Not a big deal either way. Buy a bottle. Many women take them until they are done having children so not like it is a waste.

I forget mine at least once a week. (ie. I fall asleep on the sofa and forget to take them before crawling to bed. I need to start taking them with dinner instead of before bed.)

  • I would just go buy a new bottle. Not like you have to toss them when you get your old bottle back. You'll be taking prenatal even after pregnancy. It's worth the money. Your baby needs them.
  • I forget mine all the time. It won't kill you to go without for a few days. They're vitamins. We pee most of it out anyway. And the really important phase for the folic acid has passed now anyway
  • You and baby will survive if you go without.
  • Your baby will be okay without for a few days. If you're VERY worried you can eat some leafy greens for a couple of the days you're gone- those contain folic acid, calcium, and iron, which are all important for baby's development.
  • I've been so disgustingly nauseated that I have missed more than I have taken. As was said above, most of it is peed out.
  • If there's a shop nearby with the brand you usually buy (or another brand you trust), go ahead and pick it up because, as others have said, it won't go to waste. However, a few days won't hurt you or the baby. Prenatal vitamins should be an insurance policy for nutrition only so just beef up the nutritional quality of your food and you'll be fine. Spacing out the pills day to day is good too as many pills actually test higher for each nutrient than the label reads and you tend to just pee out the excess. Spacing them out will at least give you the full benefit of each pill. Either way, if we're talking a few days, not a big deal, particularly at 14 weeks when the most crucial period has passed.
  • Thanks, all. I picked up some folic acid because it was only $8 and seemed like the most critical since it was going to be several days, and I'll probably end up taking it post natal too, so shouldn't go to waste
  • I normally forget about once a week. Those times, I just increase my intake of oj to get some folic acid in. I'm sure a few days wont hurt. Think of how many women NEVER take them and go on to have healthy pregnancies.

  • I was so sick during my first pregnancy that I couldn't keep any thing, especially prenatals, down... he is a healthy boy. It won't kill you to go without but it doesn't hurt to buy more either since you will be using them.
