I think baby boy dropped because there is soo much pressure on everything down there but I'm only 33 weeks and 2 days today and I started feeling it at 32 weeks 4 days has anyone else dropped this early and should I tell my ob at my apointment on wednesday?
Re: baby dropping
Question, nor to hijack the thread, but do people's health care providers do a down there exam every week after 36 weeks? My midwives don't but said they would if I want them too. Wasn't sure if this was the norm
@Taylovesbrad my ob practice does a check every week after 36, but I've heard some say it's not necessary. I also don't think I have the best practice in the world, if that tells you anything.
.
I haven't escaped a weekly pelvic exam since about week 30 due to PTL and 10+ trips to L&D for this, oligohydraminos, nearing IUGR etc (all being sent down from regular doctors appts after an NST/bedside US/exam....not calling in to L&D and wanting to be checked!!!)
From what I've gathered by 36 weeks it's normal to be checked at your weekly appointments.
As pp have said, most practices start weekly checks at the 36 week mark. Some just offer it and make it clear you have the choice if you want it or not, some just say they do it once a week from here on out and that's that. Just keep in mind unless you have a health concern they are generally not needed. Also if you have them remember that your dilation, station and effacement prior to actual labor are just numbers (and are important if you are planning an induction within a few days but otherwise do not indicate labor one way or the other) and not to get your hopes up (or your soul crushed) if you are dilating (or not) prior to labor. I just had a friend who walked around for two weeks at 4.5 cm and 70% effaced before having her baby (and it drove her nuts knowing she was so "open and ready" but not in labor yet).
My OB does cervical exams starting at 36 weeks, I was also told by her that those exams are no indication of labor because I can dilated and partially effaced and still go beyond my due date. I have a growth/fluid check at my 36 appointment and they check the cervix via ultrasound at that point as well. I won't be having manual cervical exams unless my OB sees it necessary as I have had a complicated free pregnancy so far. She is in agreement with this and told me they are usually more discomfort than they are worth, unless there are issues with the pregnancy of course.
If this is a concern for anyone just have a direct talk with your provider and see what their opinion is, especially if you are uncomfortable with cervical exams for any reason.

I go to a midwife practice within a university hospital, they won't do any cervical checks until I'm in labor unless I request one. Checks apparently don't give much info and can increase your risk of infection. This was the same guideline used with DD.
