Anyone Else Single?

I am 30 weeks pregnant and newly single! Was told last Tuesday that he doesn't want to be a dad and wants nothing to do with us anymore.
I'm just looking for some extra support. Feeling alone and horrible. Anyone know any good places to start feeling better? I have 2 girls, aged 5 and 2 and I can't stay in this funk for their sakes.

Re: Anyone Else Single?

  • I'm so sorry to hear that, although if someone could just walk away like that, they probably aren't someone you want in your lives. My sister had a baby at 19ish and was single. She and my niece are doing great. I was also raised by a single mom who was incredible. I think it made me really grounded and independent. There are probably some single mom groups in your area that would be fun. Good luck, stay strong, you've got this!

  • Yes, I am single. I love birth boards however sometimes I feel like I'm missing out because I don't have a partner. Her dad doesn't want to deal with pregnancy stuff and I doubt fatherhood will soften him up so I walked away.

I've Googled a lot about single motherhood and single moms to be. Reading some of those stories has helped me feel so not alone.
TTC my #1 with PCOS since June 2010.

Personal question ... Is he the dad to all 3 children? I just don't get how men can just walk out of their child's life and decide they just don't want to be a dad anymore. Same if a mother wanted to do the same thing.

  • I'm single. Dad will help with baby, but we live 4 hours apart so it'll be hard. I'm thankful for whatever he can do but I'm still in love with him, so it's really difficult emotionally when I want us to be a family. We can do it though. My mom had a baby as a teenager, got married and quickly divorced, but still put herself through college and raised my brother so well. It can be done!

  • He is the father to my 2 year old. We have been together since my 5 year old was 10 months old, so he's been around for a while.
It just came out of no where. I just don't understand what has happened to make him just all of a sudden not want anything to do with us. Our 2 year old was the absolute love of his life.
  • I'm single as well. Dad lives about 2 hours away and says he wants to "be there", but it's going to be a little difficult because I know he doesn't love me and will never want to be with ME, which has been hard for me to grasp.
I'm sorry for what you're going through, I can't imagine having someone just walk out on me like that :( do you have any close friends or family that can help?
  • That's so difficult to deal with right now. I feel for you. My ex walked out when my daughter was days old. Heartbreaking. My motto was to just keep going. You'll be a wonderful mother. Don't worry about all the busy bodies. And hopefully you live somewhere that you can get a lot of support.
  • I'm very sorry. I have so much respect for single moms who work their butts off to be everything their kids need.

I encourage all of you to think about talking to an attorney about your right to receive child support to help with the expense of raising a child. There are other considerations like the father's rights, and it's not right for everyone, but it's worth thinking about.
