Lump feeling in throat

I have been having what I thought was indigestion for the past month or so. I would get an annoying lump feeling in my throat for several hours at a time but only after eating dinner. Well yesterday I got it after dinner but it didn't go away. I've had it for over 24 hours now and tums did nothing, it is really irritating to eat, the food going down makes it more uncomfortable. I still assume it is either heartburn or indigestion but I'm not sure? (38 + 3 days along)

Re: Lump feeling in throat

  • Could it be anxiety? I always feel it in my upper chest.

  • It's up in the middle of my throat like something is stuck
  • I've had things like that happen but only when I'm suffering from some sort of illness. I'd probably check in with a doctor to be on the safe side, if it is something you'll have caught it early and even if it's not anything concerning they still might be able to tell you what to do to get rid of it.
  • Maybe a swollen lymph node?
  • Allergies? I've had mucus sticking like crazy in my throat lately, especially bc I can't use my normal decongestant right now.

  • Could be irritation in your esophagus due to heartburn. I had esophagitis (swelling and irritation in the esophagus) a few years ago due to my bad acid reflux. It felt like my food was not going all the way down, like I needed to drink water with every bite. Sometimes I would feel nauseous after eating because of the discomfort of food going down. Try eating soft foods and liquids for a few days and stay away from anything acidic, spicy, or greasy, and try to sleep on angle if you can to keep it from creeping up at night. And talk to your dr if it doesn't improve.
  • Do you still have your tonsils?  If it feels like something is stuck in your throat, it could be a tonsil stone.
  • What you're feeling could of course be any number of things, but I will say that when I first started getting heartburn/acid reflux, I googled "lump in throat" because that's how it felt to me too! So it's possible that's the cause - if it is, I've found Zantac and Tums to be helpful and my OB said they're fine to take. Hope you're feeling better.
