IV hydration

Nausea and vomiting continued over 24 hours and got so bad that I ended up getting sent to the hospital. Going on my third hour here on hydration and feeling better! Finally getting some food down too. Going home with a script for Zofran. I'm 8w5 and hoping the MS will go away after the first trimester. Anyone else end up at the hospital yet?

Re: IV hydration

  • I'm getting close but I'm stubborn.

  • You poor thing.  This happened to my sister when she was carrying her daughter.  I'm glad you went and got taken care of.

  • I had to go in for a similar situation. It ended up being a virus in combination with morning sickness. Glad you are getting hydrated! Hope you are feeling better soon!
  • I haven't ended up in the hospital yet, thank goodness. But, I'm already on bed rest. I'm currently 9w+3d. I've been on bed rest since Tuesday and it's a minimum two weeks, then I'll be reassessed.

Good luck with the MS medication. Hopefully it does the trick and you're able to keep hydrated, and keep some food in your stomach!
  • I get to hydrate at home :|
  • Feel better soon :-(

  • I ended up like that with my 1st pregnancy. This one has been a little bit better. I recommend reading about Zofran. There's some conflicting studies. Not sure if I would trust it completely.
  • When do you decide to go to get fluids? I've been very sick, but not sure when it's bad enough to go in...
  • Thanks everyone for the support! It makes me feel better that I'm not alone. I broke down sobbing last night since I felt so sick.

Andiie5, thanks for the heads up! I'll look into it. My husband is a pharmacist so I'll grill him tonight
  • Kaylardonato, my OB told me to call if I was vomiting for 24 hours. So when I hit that 24 hour mark and was vomiting even small sips of liquid, I called the OB. They immediately set up an appt for me at the infusion clinic to get the IV hydration. I feel so much better now and am able to drink and eat without issue. Hopefully I don't have to go back, but it was a good experience. I got a nice long nap during the treatment.
  • Thanks for the info...my OB has said 24 hours too but I am able to keep down small sips, just not food...no Bueno! I'm glad you feel better, and hope you don't have to go back, either! At least we can take comfort in the long term goals ;).
  • I'm here now for the 2 nd time
  • Oh no!!! Feel better!!!

  • Yep, I was there last weekend.... Honestly I wish I could do an IV at home. I just CANNOT drink more than about 40oz of water a day.... It's half what I should be drinking. I just can't force any more down...
  • Yeah girl! Was there on Monday. It felt so good to be "reset". I felt like I was getting deeper into a hole of not eating because I'm nauseous and nauseous because I wasn't eating. Feel better!

  • I hope you start to feel better soon! I've been going to the infusion clinic for hydration 2-3 times per week for three weeks. I can't keep anything down and I've lost 11 pounds in about two weeks. I'm 9w2d to I hope it'll get better soon.
  • I'm sorry you ladies are so sick! Hope you feel better soon.
  • I had a horrible GI bug around my 8th week that made me truly scared that I was developing HG. Turned out that after about 4-6 days it passed. I truly was miserable though. Very dehydrated, couldn't keep a thing down. I hope that this passes quickly for you as well!
