Cramping at 5 weeks

I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow. Coming off a loss in June. I've been having noticeable cramps all morning. No spotting. But I just remember this from back in June and now I am just soooo nervous and trying not to panic. I had my blood drawn on Wednesday and have heard nothing. I haven't even seen the doctor, it was just to confirm and get the levels. My heart is just aching right now tho....

Re: Cramping at 5 weeks

  • I'm so sorry for your loss, and I can imagine it only makes this pregnancy more nerve-racking.

I have also experienced mild cramping as well. I spoke to my doctor and midwife, both say cramping is normal and not to worry unless it's severe or accompanied by bleeding. Hang in there!

I had a miscarriage 4 years ago and remember it so well. I've been cramping this pregnancy but no spotting or anything abnormal. I called and the nurse said cramping is normal. I would say as long as there is no blood, you are probably okay.
  • For both my pregnancies I have horrible cramping around week 4-5. No bleeding but just horrible cramps. It is relatively normal. Just your little bean implanting and making a home.
  • I also had a loss in January and so have been worried about the cramps but everyone says it's completely normal at this stage which is reassuring. Wishing you a very boring and happy pregnancy!
  • Thank you all for the reassurance. Early pregnancy with or without having had a loss is just nerve wracking. Period.
  • I have also have had cramps starting a few days before I would have missed my period. From what I understand it is normal :) I also think it's normal to worry...I can't concentrate on anything other than the baby - and probably won't feel reassured until I see a heart beat.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I think I'm going to start a thread for a weekly PGAL check-in. There seem to be a lot of us on the board. Just remember, you're pregnant right now and cramping and spotting to be very normal in early pregnancy. I know with having a loss in your past, you're never going to settle down with that answer at all. Feel better mama!
  • I am sorry for your loss! I've been having off and on cramping since 5 days DPO and I'm 6 weeks today. I spotted once around 4 weeks. I believe mild cramping is normal in pregnancy.

This is totally understandable. Early pregnancy is making me a little crazy too. I am almost 6 weeks and have had mild cramping since I found out I was pregnant, really. Just today, I had a touch of spotting. I've read/heard a million times that it's normal, but it still gets your brain wandering (especially after a loss, which I'm sorry to hear about as well!). I guess once I see the doctor next week and have the ultrasound and blood work, I'll be more comforted and feel more secure. Think positive (as much as you can!).
  • Just wondering, what do your cramps feel like ? Similar to pre-menstrual?
  • Thanks all! I have been finding more center and trying to keep my inner peace. I have faith in the plans God has for me, my body, and this baby. Leaning on my faith helps a lot.

@Malibu45, I'd say that they do feel like mild pre menstral cramps. Not bad, but noticeable. Hope that helps!
  • I had multiple losses before my DD and I know every little thing had me so worried. I am sure you are worried, but just keep telling yourself that today you are pregnant. Cramping is common in early pregnancy. Your uterus almost instantly begins changing to prepare for the next nine months. It is a cruel twist of fate that the symptoms of pregnancy also include some of the same symptoms as getting AF and experiencing a loss. Try to take it one day at a time.

  • I'm having similar stuff, too--the tiniest bit of brown spotting and then occasional cramping.  I'm totally paranoid.  This pregnancy is a total shock and I'm terrified at losing it.  I just keep trying to relax and keep my mind busy on other stuff.  I have my first visit tomorrow, and hopefully can get some reassurance, especially since I actually have no accurate idea of how far along I am...(6 weeks is my best estimate)

I will say---the cramping last night got pretty bad, and I was super-upset, and then I passed some excellent gas.... :)
That improved my spirits a little bit (and made me feel ridiculously stupid)
  • Hi! Last Feb., I had an early MC so this time I have been super cautious. Around 5 weeks, I had cramps and light brown spotting and was extremely upset. Turns out it is just old blood. The next week, my HCG was in the 7000s and according to blood tests all looked good! I am close to 7 weeks now and so far so good. Hopefully this helps you to feeL better!
