Nausea

My nausea hits me all day and night. What are you ladies doing or what have you done in past pregnancies to help ease it. I'm currently using the sea band wristbands (which actually seem to help a lot for my night time nausea), I suck on peeppermint candies, I have ginger ale and ginger tea, and I just ordered some preggie pops, as recommended by a friend.

Re: Nausea

  • Dont let your stomach get empty & stay hydrated. Even if you're only having a couple of crackers (I keep a box bedside) just to have a few, I find that when my stomach is empty - the MS comes on quickly. Feel better!

  • This is my first time around and I am trying ALL the things to get some relief. Hydration was a huge thing for me yeaterday, literally kept a straw in my mouth all day sipping water and I actually felt decent. Also eating all day. Honey teddy grahams have been saving me the last few days.
  • This is my second time around and the first was horrible for nausea...this time is even worse and started extremely early. Eat frequently, and know that when you feel the worst and all food seems disgusting is when you most need to get something down. Keep snacks on your bedside table and nibble something if/when you wake in the night and before you get out of bed in the morning to avoid morning pukes. I've been liking lime-flavoured Greek yogurt because the sour helps me get it down and the protein and fat help settle my stomach. Honestly though, since I've been through this before and have a job to do and toddler to care for, I just went to my doctor right away and asked for meds. They don't take away the nausea completely but they take the edge off so I can get through the day and usually not puke.
  • Because someone mentioned hydration...if you're puking, be careful about drinking lots of water on an empty stomach, especially in the morning. Little sips all day will be easier on your stomach.
  • Keeping a little in your stomach all the time was key for me. I'd wake up after midnight starving and eat a banana. That said, I still threw up at least once a morning no matter what.

In addition to the PPs, my OB recommends taking B6 and B12 daily to help prevent nausea. Only the preggie pops with B6 helped me, not the regular.
  • Sounds like you are doing everything right and have great advise. Feel better mama!
  • With DS, I took a combo of B6 and Unisom, I would ask your doctor though what the amounts were, I don't remember. It helped me quite a bit. But also eating all day long helped as well. Good luck! MS sucks! Mine started at 6 weeks with DS so I am just waiting its arrival any day!

  • Eat real food. The suckers and peppermint are good but I feel like they make me forget to actually eat. Little snacks throughout the day help. Once I feel nauseous, I eat. Nothing big, but I make sure to put something in my tummy.
  • I drink peppermint tea and eat crackers. I agree with PP to be careful with water - I chugged some water last night before bed and it was a really bad idea. Sipping is better and I need to train myself to be better with that.

  • Eat protein! I had BAD nausea with my first and find that eating more protein than carbs helps. Especially raw almonds. I've been reading stuff about a link between low magnesium and morning sickness and almonds have lots of magnesium.

  • I've been taking a half of unisom at night and that has seemed to help some.
  • I just wanted to say thanks for posting this, I've been having the same problem too!
