1st Trimester

Good workout program

I'm 7w2d along and want to maintain my exercise. I'd like something I can do at home that is a little more intense than I'm finding. Any ideas on workout videos or YouTube videos? Thanks!

Re: Good workout program

  • I'm making my way through TurboFire right now. I really like it and love that the girl off to the right shows you how to do the low impact version of the exercise.

  • The workout video I use is 10 Minute Solution: Prenatal Pilates, you can do short 10 minute combos if you want really quick or you can more than one segment at a time.

  • I do the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home videos. I LOVE them!
  • I've been doing Crossfit for years but I took this semester off to focus on school & then we found out about the babe. I'm just running and lifting to keep in shape until I'm past my 1st trimester & I can get back into the gym. My doctor is supportive of me being active and maintaining as long as I follow my coaches instructions and modifications for my pregnancy. Good luck & I'm glad to see other moms in the same boat as me! It's so frustrating to have everyone give you the side eye because you want to stay in shape

  • I'm just continuing what I was doing before (crossfit) when I have the energy to do it. My Dr said I could do anything that I was already doing prepregnancy so I say just keep up what you're doing as long as you feel well enough to do it!
  • I have finally made myself start doing short little circuits of things like jumping jacks, squats and planks. About 10 minutes is all I can realistically commit at a time with a 1 year old so I'm looking into that Pilates dvd! @satuttle1014

  • I'm really interested in this too.  Being active is really important to me and I had been discouraged from most activity all through IVF treatments.  I am eager to get back on the wagon now that my ovaries aren't the size of watermelons and the baby is healthy and normal.

There is so much conflicting information out there.  don't get your heart rate over 140b, Exercise increases your body temperature (untrue!  unless it's crazy hot and humid, you should be able to sweat to regulate your body temperature!), don't bounce too much.  don't do flip turns.  don't do core work

I am so confused what i can and can't do.

I would love any help!  I didn't know i could do planks!  thanks for helping everyone.
    can i run?
  • I started TurboFire the week before I got my BFP, so I'll be continuing with that and just switch to low impact when it gets too intense.

  • Tracey Anderson has great videos on YouTube. Also get a ball and look on pinterest for ball exercises. I've worked out religiously for 4 years so im 27 weeks still doing my 5x a week gym routine. If you are physically active and work out regularly don't stop your routine just because your pregnant. It gets challenging at times and may have to go down in weight or stop a few exercises but listen to your body and doctor when to much is to much. I also train....amd gave had a few pregnant females in the 1st trimester start working out then.... Get a gym membership and find machines that you like to do! At 22 weeks my doctor asked me to stop working on my core since i had no bump and the placenta has potential to separate thats the only restriction ive had. Also every gym has a free hour consultation with a trainer these days even though your pregnant take advantage of that have them teach you toning exercises and ask them to show you exercises you can do through out your pregnancy.

If you are on Facebook look up Diary of a fit mommy. She also has a blog and you can probably find some videos on YouTube. But right now she is pregnant also, so she is posting tons of good pregnancy workouts! All of her workouts are done in her home gym and you don't need anything to do them, maybe some light weights.
  • I am currently doing the Active Maternity workouts on Club beachbody (subscription based). If you guys have that, look for the videos on beachbody on demand!

  • mmmmkay, obviously you should talk to your OB with specific questions, but I also felt very confused by all of the conflicting information out there and talked my doctor about what was okay.  She said the number one rule is to exercise for comfort -- core work is totally fine, planks, twisting, whatever you need to do, as well as flip turns in swimming, as long as they are comfortable.  As for cardio, running is totally fine (as is just about any other cardio you can think of), and my doctor recommended 150bpm for me as someone who was very fit pre-pregnancy.  While not a hard-and-fast number (she said to dial it back if I got into the 160 range), the reason for this is that the faster your HR, the less time your heart has in its fully-expanded state (she used the medical word, which I'm forgetting), which means your heart is actually delivering less oxygen to your blood.  Couple that with the fact that your heart already has to work harder to pump the extra blood your body has made, and it can lead to faintness, dizziness, and not getting enough oxygen to the baby.
  • mmmmkay, I am in the same boat. In addition to being counselled not to move a lot during IVF, I felt too crappy to do much of anything. I'm still not feeling well but I'm very concerned about the results of not exercising during my pregnancy if I stay sedentary. I've been going to our gym and walking for 30 minutes at a time on the treadmill, but I don't know that it's enough. I need to get into something - I have never been a frequent exerciser or one who enjoys it!!
  • I've read to just try to avoid activities with bouncing and a greater possibility of falling. I am going to be doing zumba (lightly) and walking instead of running. (That's okay though, because I haven't been running in a while, so walking will do.)
