Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC after depo

Well that 72 hours felt like it was timed in microwave minutes-so excited to officially be a "member!"

After being on depo for five years, my husband and I are TTC asap so our daughter isn't driving a car by the time she has a brother or sister. I'm looking for some success stories or any ladies who may be in the same boat in regards to TTC/pregnancy after depo. My last injection was July 8th and here I am..waiting for something..ANYTHING to show signs that my body is going back to normal, and so far, nada.

Re: TTC after depo

  • Welcome. My last injection was October 2014. December was when I was supposed to get another and I did not. My period returned the end of February and I was regular after that. I had made some changes in my diet and excersize around January so I think that helped get my body on track. Don't be worried that it hasnt happened yet it's very normal. My friend took almost a year before she got her period after depo. I think the average is 10 months from the last injection.

  • I absolutely realize this is a "trying to get pregnant board", I just assumed some members might be trying after already having children, such as myself...not just first time pregnancies. I've also searched the topic, but was looking for others who might now what I'm going through at this very moment rather than boards that are months or even years old. Regardless, thanks for your suggestions.
  • OP - if you your last shot was in July, that means that shot didn't even wear off until October.  So you've basically been BC free for 1 month.  Give it some time as PP suggested.  My last shot was in Aug 2014 and got my period in April 2015.  I am still not pregnant.
  • I was on the depo shot for 3 years and never had a period in that timeframe. My doctor told me at that time that when I got off of the shot it could take 9-12 months for the effects to wear off. There are success stories out there of it happening much sooner, just giving you some input from my dr. They took me off of it a few years ago, bc back then they feared the effects on bone marrow with long term use. So I went without bc and got pregnant a year and a half ago ending in MC. Then got the nexplanon for a few months and decided I was ready to TTC, the nexplanon has little to no waiting period, which is why I chose it. Good luck!

We have many TFAS (Trying for A Sibling) members. I don't know how many were on depo though. From what I've read it can take 18 months for some women's cycles to return at all. I don't know about ovulation. Depo mimicks pregnancy so it can be a real game changer (like pregnancy) for TTC afterward.
