NO Braxton Hicks?

So is anyone else not having any BH contractions? I'm 35w on Sat & I don't think I've had any. Is this weird? Is it possible I'm missing them? I assumed they'd be hard to miss, but it's getting close now & nothing! Anyone else experience this, either now or with a previous pregnancy? I'm just starting to worry (shocking, I know!) that since people say BH prepares you for delivery, I'm going to show up unprepared! ;)

Re: NO Braxton Hicks?

  • I haven't had any (33+1 weeks). You likely are having some contractions you just aren't feeling. If they are light ones and you don't have your hands on your stomach to feel your uterus getting tighter, you could definitely be missing them (as could I). Or, you just aren't having them. Not everyone gets them. I wouldn't be concerned.

  • I often mistake them for my LO pushing his back and butt out. I have to feel my whole belly to determine which it is. Mine aren't painful nor do they really make me stop what I am doing. It just feels like my whole belly tightens up and gets hard.
  • Ok, thanks ladies! I thought this might be the case! I'm usually very in touch with my body (knowing when I ovulate, etc) but there's just so much going on there these days!
  • I didn't get them till recently at 36w.

Same here. I often have to double check too to determine whether it's a BH or his positioning. They feel very similar.
  • I told my ob's nurse that I had been having some Braxton hicks and she said I needed to drink more water. Maybe you are just well hydrated!
  • @Jenichael1217 I do drink an insane amount of water every day! ;)

I haven't had any im 37 weeks and some days here
  • I never felt any at all with my first three children, but I get them all the time with this one. x
  • This is my 3rd and I have never felt BH. I have had BH according to the non stress tests I have had for GDM but I never feel them.
  • Thanks, for posting this I was starting to wonder too. I've had the baby's back must be in my belly button, "how do I make the baby move? feeling" a couple times--maybe it was the BH. I also drink a TON of water.
  • I haven't had any either at 36.3. Mentioned to my midwife and she said it's fine. I'm not worried
  • I've had them for this pregnancy, but for my first pregnancy, I don't remember having them. At least painful ones.

I've noticed my belly alternating between hard and squishier more this time around, though. Maybe I just didn't notice it before?
  • I've heard it is not uncommon for FTM's not to feel them at all. I've felt then since soon after week 20 because I was grocery shopping on a 90 degree, muggy day. OB said to drink more water, even though I consume a gallon or more a day. I've felt them nearly every day since and no amount of water and rest makes them go away but they stay less than 5 an hour so my OB hasn't been concerned. They're just uncomfortable at times. I wouldn't mind not being able to feel them. Lol

Same here! I was convinced LO wasn't a very active baby but then I realized that what I thought were BH was actually his backside pushing against me making it tight. Or at least i think so because it doesn't seem to last any certain amount of time or anything? Haha so I'm not really sure exactly what I'm feeling sometimes. I think the movement of the baby is more of a concern than anything. That's pretty much what I keep being told. As long as baby is moving, you aren't leaking or experiencing real contractions then everything is usually fine.
  • I don't think I've had any and it makes me nervous too.
