MIL Over FaceTime

As I am typing this and pumping my husband in the other room listening to his mom. (Thank you lord for pumping!)
She is giving him 1000 tips of what to do to calm the baby because she is crying now. She been crying all day today... I guess it's one of those days and that is that. But to my MIL she is:
Cold
Bored
Hungry
What's a hug
Is a poor kid
We need to get her more toys
Needs to be talked to
Needs a diaper change
We need to read a book
See if she is hungry again
Needs to listen to a hear beat
He is holding her wrong
We need to hold her more

And she is non of that. She only has gas and I'll fix her as soon as I'm done pumping. ;) momy knows best.

  • Oh man! Don't get me started on the pets. My family (other the my parents) think my dog will rip my baby apart. Meanwhile, I trust my dog more than some people.
  • Oh man, every time I see my MIL she always tells me something different.
I need to hold my breast different while feeding.
    I burp her too hard.
Keep more clothes in the diaper bag (and more diapers)
Just use the sleepers with the buttons not zippers.
Don't use those wipes, just use a paper towel.
Don't put her in a swing.
    She doesn't need a paci.

Oh man, it goes on and on! Thanks but I spend 24/7 with my baby, I think I can pick up on her cues more than you. And I think we're doing a pretty damn good job raising her so far!
  • I don't have a MIL but his grandmother drives me nuts with her constant advice and it's always the same thing every time I see her.

Don't listen to what the doctors say
    Give him baby food
    Give him water
Oh well we didn't do that
Jason (my DH) didn't use a binky, we didn't allow it
We didn't burp Jason like that
What do you mean, you're still recovering? (I had a csection and she could not comprehend why I couldn't come over daily)

I really don't like any members of his side of the family which is a shame. I don't exist as the mother and it only matters that my son is their blood and that's all
  • @hakettler paper towel instead of wipes???!!! Ouch!!!!! I'd like to see her use paper towel when she uses the bathroom and see how she like it!

@chelseajeanene how could anyone not understand the magnitude of a c section?! It's major surgery! You're a saint for keeping your cool.
  • My in-laws are pretty good, but my MIL was a very I experienced mom when DH was born and still doesn't really know any modern theory about babies. FIL is 82 so he's basically a grandpa. When she had DH she breastfed for 2 months but got mastitis and stopped bfing, so they literally ask me and DH every time we talk if I have mastitis yet. It's super annoying. They also complain a lot about friends of theirs with babies who hold them all the time and "spoil them" so they really don't get the 4th trimester stuff. They also don't understand why we can't take the baby out of its carseat or switch it to forward facing if he's crying... It's tiring trying to explain all this stuff to them all the time!
  • I think everyone over the age of 50 is adamant about feeding newborns water and rice cereal.
