Just found out im pregnant

Just found out I'm pregnant with baby number 3, went to the ER on Friday because I was throwing up so much. They didn't do anything only a urine test and gave me reglan. Now I went back today for cramps and still didn't do anything. I can't get in to see and OB until December what do i do I want to make sure baby is ok :( I don't know how far along I am and I've been throwing up off and on for weeks. I don't have a period since I'm breast feeding.

  • throwing up & cramping are very common pregnancy symptoms, especially early on. I'm sure you & baby are just fine. keep in mind, no two pregnancies are the same.

but yeah, there isn't much they can do at the ER for pregnancy symptoms.

Have to agree with PP, I wouldn't go to the ER with those symptoms.

I would call your OB or their nurse line and see if they have any suggestions, maybe ask if it's appropriate for you to be seen earlier if your symptoms are that severe.
  • I've called and he's on vacation and that he can't see me until December, I had a hard pregnancy last time and I didn't stop throwing up until 6 months
  • Hey told me to go to the ER if I had anymore symptoms so that's what I did

hmm. that's really weird that your OB would tell you to go to Emerg if you had anymore pregnancy symptoms.. there's literally nothing that they can or will do there. apart from nausea medication if it gets THAT bad, which it sounds like they did.
but if your nausea was that bad with the previous pregnancy, why is being nauseous making you worry about baby..?
  • The med they gave me isn't working I've only had one meal a day since last Thursday

Are there no other doctors in the practice? No nurses?

Might be time to consider a different doctor.

  • The other ob in town won't see me since I didn't deliver with him last time. And no one else takes my insurance

Maybe this is why your OB is concerned? Is there a walk in clinic you can go to?

  • I was really sick with my second pregnancy and couldn't really keep anything down and my doctor told me to really push the fluids and eat small snacks through out the day. He said even if I didn't keep it down for long at least I was getting something. Have you tried things high in protein? There was a drink from the naked brand that I loved! As a medical student who does lots of rounds in the ed I agree with pp that they aren't going to do much there besides give you a medication to stop nausea and make sure you aren't dehydrated. You could ask for an ultrasound but that's going to be an expensive bill and they might not do it even with you asking. Try to go to a clinic or something where they will be more inclined to take care of pregnancy symptoms! Good luck!

Why won't he see you just because you didn't previously deliver with him?  That's a little odd?

  • congrats! I hope it gets easier!
  • If you're only eating one meal in a day you're probably going to end up in the hospital. It sounds like maybe you have HG and I find it very odd that your doctor's office won't see you.. even just a nurse. They should at least prescribe you a nausea medicine that works.

Cramps are completely normal. Did you not have them with your first two??

Sorry you're having such a rough time.

Congrats on your pregnancy. It sort of sounds like you know what's happening then... you're having another hard pregnancy.  It's too early for anyone to really do anything right now to "check on baby."  I hope you feel better soon...

  • He said that's his policy
  • If that's his policy I would absolutely switch doctors. If he isn't willing to see you when you feel something is off that's awful.
