Nose bleeds

I've gotten a couple nose bleeds in the last few days. Is this normal? I'm not usually prone to them. 12 weeks.

Re: Nose bleeds

  • Yes this is normal. My last pregnancy I frequently got them in the shower with all the steam. I've already had one last week.

I remember crying my eyes out when I would get nosebleeds my first pregnancy because they made me so upset for some reason. My husband thought I was nuts sobbing over a nosebleed...

  • When I was pg with DD I had a nosebleed every morning. I had never had one before and never had one after being pregnant. I think it had something to do with the extra blood flow and the fact that it was winter and the air was extra dry. Super annoying though!
  • @JessicaB0627 I haven't had nose bleeds exactly but lately my nose is extremely itchy and irritated which I haven't experience before so when I blow there is blood and I constantly have stuffed sinuses. Is this normal? Did you experience this at all? Also I'm wondering is using some essential oils to give moisture to my nasal passages is okay. Sorry for the massive overload of questions!!
  • @evamarta That definitely sounds similar to what I was going through. My nose would bleed for a short time and I would have to blow it a few times in the morning when it stopped to get it all out of there. I do remember it feeling irritated too.

I would ask your doctor before using any essential oils. I know some are safe but there are some that are not considered safe during pregnancy. He might also have some better suggestions. My doctor never seemed concerned and it was just something annoying I had to deal with during the pregnancy. Good luck!
  • @evamarta I've had some serious congestion and blood when I blow my nose as well, yet my comment is mainly in regards to essential oils. I am a huge freak when it comes to oils, before I got pregnant I literally used oils for every purpose of things that fill most people's medicine cabinets, even for bandaids (and I will continue to once baby is born). However, there aren't enough trials done on oils used during pregnancy for me to feel comfortable using them. The very most I will do is once in the second trimester, holding peppermint and lavender oil up to my nose for some migraine relief or holding some citrus blends up to my nose for inhalation for immune support. I personally would not recommend using oils during pregnancy just because natural remedies can effect our bodies and babies just as much as western medicinal practices when used without sufficient information and trials regarding their safety. If you do choose to use oils, I'd highly recommend diluting them with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil and only using one drop. Good luck!
  • I had a really stuffy nose and almost daily nosebleeds with my first for the first trimester (stuffy nose lasted pretty much the whole pregnancy!) I think it's pretty normal.
