Has anyone had an amino in a previous pregnancy? I have one scheduled for week 16 after 2 failed attempts to do a CVS. What is the recovery like? I am planning on being home for the rest of that day; do I need to take the following day off too?
I had an amniocentisis with my last pregnancy. I was a candidate for a fetal surgery and they would not do it without a good result from the amnio, otherwise I would have never had the test done because there are risks (although small) associated with it.
Anyway, they use an ultrasound to guide the needle. It takes maybe 20 seconds, but it feels like an eternity. You feel cramping as they are drawing out the amniotic fluid. Some cramping persists for an hour or so after the procedure. Depending on the type of job you have, I see no need to take any time off work for physical reasons. Depending on why you are getting the amnio, you might need a couple mental health hours to destress. No need to take the following day off whatsoever.
