Tilted Uterus

So I found out this morning that I have a tilted uterus. I can do all sorts of searches on the internet, but I was wondering if any of you ladies also have a tilted uterus, what have you experienced so far? If you are a STM (or 3rd, 4th, etc), have you noticed anything about giving birth that is different? They couldn't get the heartbeat with a doppler today because our little dino is so far back but were able to see him/her with an u/s and everything is looking perfect. Just curious!

Re: Tilted Uterus

  • I have a tilted uterus. I was in active labor with my first for 2 days before they finally recommended a c-section due to failure to progress and concerns with LO's heartbeat. I'm not sure that's related to the tilted uterus though, although my doctor did say my "structure" wasn't allowing the baby to come out. I had a RCS with my second (who happened to be breach). I also have a hard time with finding the heartbeat on a Doppler but attributed that to having an anterior placenta.

  • I have a retro verted uterus, so I'm guessing that's the same thing. Everything I've heard or read is that it's really no big deal, and doesn't mean much other than only taking longer to hear the heartbeat on Doppler.

  • My us tech didn't mention it but when my OB tried the Doppler she said "they told you that you have a tilted uterus didn't they" I said no and she shrugged. I didn't think to ask anything else about it but she had a very hard time getting the heartbeat at 13 weeks. She finally found it after a bit. I guess I'll ask about it next appointment.
  • My doctor shrugged it off to so I'm not concerned. But I did have to laugh and say "of course I would."
  • My mom had a tilted uterus with both me and my sister.  I'm not sure what that means exactly.  I was told I had one last pregnancy.  Never know what would come of it though as the pregnancy did not make it.  Not sure about this time yet.

  • First-timer here, but I have a retroverted or "tilted" uterus too. So far the only difference was that they had to do a transvaginal ultrasound for the dating scan at 6 weeks (but that's pretty common anyway due to the earliness of that scan) and that the doctor was unable to get a fetal heartbeat on the Doppler at the 11-week checkup and ended up having to do an ultrasound to check up on the heart rate instead.

Other than that it doesn't seem like anything is different. I had no difficulties getting pregnant (which apparently is one of the things that can happen with a retroverted uterus) and none of our doctors or ultrasound techs has expressed any concerns with the development of the pregnancy yet. We had our NT scan today at 12 weeks 4 days and it went fine, they were able to get a clear image and measurements of everything they wanted.
  • This is my third, and I didn't even know I had a tilted uterus until my appointment 2 weeks ago as I have a different OB this time. I had no problems at all hearing the heartbeat with the first 2 pregnancies or with deliveries.

  • Retroverted uterus here. Its what's called a "Normal Variation", kinda like how some people are left handed. Nothing to worry about at all but sometimes makes life slightly frustrating (sorry to any left handed people out there, just a good example!)

  • I have a tilted uterus as well - just found out :) My Dr. said about 2/3 of pregnant women have tilted uteruses and it means nothing more than ... you have a tilted uterus :) That's somewhat comforting

I also have a tilted uterus. This is my third pregnancy and I've never had any problems with pregnancy and have had easy births. I did have some bladder irritation early on with my first two pregnancies but the OB wasn't sure if it was related to the tilted uterus. I'm pretty sure it just straights out as the pregnancy progresses.
  • I have one but my doctors never made an issue of it. I have noticed it takes a bit to hear the HB but haven't had any further issues with it. However, I only have half of a uterus so that may trump any other issues that are going on in there.

I was told (because I have one too) that the retroverted uterus can cause pain during sex with a particularly large partner (because of what it does to your cervix) and slight difficulties with seeing things in early pregnancy, but no other problems because it straightens out as the baby grows.
