Baby won't sleep at night

I would love my newborn to fall asleep in his bassinet co sleeper that is attached to my bed. He Usually falls asleep nursing, or in my arms. But whenever I try to put him in any kind of bed like thing (bassinet, pack n play) he wakes up. Sometimes he'll stay there for like 5 minutes, but usually she wakes up pretty soon after and wants back in my arms. He sleeps for stretches at a time during the day but at night he's up every hour being fussy . Help! TIA :)

  • I have the same problem. It was recommended to me to hold baby for about ten minutes after they fall asleep to allow them to reach a deeper sleep. Also have some sort of white noise at night because the quiet can scare the baby awake

  • Yeah I've tried to hold him for up to 30 minutes so he's in deep sleep he still freaks out and wakes up. The only time hell sleep is next to me in my bed
  • Asked my doctor about this on Monday. He said that newborns have bad growing pains at night. He said that if you have fed them changed them and tried everything you have done all you can and its growing pains. my little guy was up from 1 am to 5 am yesterday. Luckily my MIL came last night and stayed and let me and my husband get a full night sleep. Of course I still had to get up to pump every three hours. Just have faith they will grow out of it eventually.
  • This is my LO too. we take turns holding him to sleep. Its very hard but its building attachment and bonding....I hope it gets easier soon though! My boy is 11 days old so I am holding out thinking that after the 3-4 week mark I can introduce a night time paci for comfort. This would also allow me to swaddle him arms -in (right now we swaddle arms out to let him self soothe. The LD nurses recommended this)....As they get older their sleeps get deeper and longer too and its harder to wake them I have been told
  • After a swaddle my little nugget and stick him in the bassinet, I'll drape a shirt I wore the night before on him so it's like I'm close when I'm not!

This happens about once a week with my LO. She will eat and eat. Put her down after 15 mins and then wakes up crying In a little. Paci helps but when it falls out she screams. I feed her and she stops but then sometimes spits up Bc I think overeating. This goes on for about 4 hours starting around 11pm. She's 7 weeks tomo. Hopefully stops before I have to go back to work.

  • Do you hold him a lot during the day? I've read that babies who are held more during the day are more likely to sleep seperate at night. This seems to hold true with our LO. Also, it's helped us when we begin waking her to feed every 1.5 hours toward the end of the day. So for example around 6pm, we wake her for a 1 oz bottle at 7, 8 and 9, instead of doing a 3 oz before bedtime at 9. Then she wakes at 12, 3 and 6 like clockwork.
