progesterone levels

Just wondering if anyone has gotten their progesterone levels taken. They tested mine and are putting me on a pill my progesterone level was at a 6 I'm 5 weeks along. My doctor told me they are kinda low, so just wondering if my progesterone level being at 6 should I be scared?

Re: progesterone levels

  • Don't be scared. That is low but it doesn't mean it's too low to turn out healthy. Is he putting you on suppositories or regular pills? My doc has me on the suppositories...I guess they are supposed to absorb better? Lots of women have to take supplements for progesterone, I'm glad your doc tested your levels in the first place!! Is this your first pregnancy?

I just started the progesterone suppositories today. My level was good but she put me on pills anyway due to a miscarriage in April. Glad your doctor is being proactive!
  • I've had two other pregnancies but both times I miscarried. I'm just nervous I guess, and while on my way to get the pills the pharmacist told me to come tomorrow because they won't get them in until tomorrow. I'm very glad they checked my blood because I was actually going to a different obgyn and they told me they couldn't see me until November 25 witch my doctor now won't be able to see me until the 23th buttttt I just though it was weird that the first doctor I made an appointment with didn't want to At least test me even though I informed them about my situation of high risk of miscarriages. I called the second doctor a week later because just didn't feel right and the lady right away said well he won't be ale to see u until the 23th but his going to send u to go get labs to make sure your doing good.
  • I called a different obgyn a week later witch was just yesterday and did my blood work that day.
  • I'm on pill progesterone. Mine went from 9.6 to 20 in 5 days. try not to worry.

  • I'm in the same boat as you. 5 weeks and a few days a long with two prior miscarriages and this will hopefully be my first child. My MD told me I have a mild case of PCOS and put me on progesterone pills. This is my first cycle taking them and I'm already pregnant, which I guess is a good sign. My latest progesterone level is 8, so my MD actually doubled my dosage. I get my blood redrawn on Monday, so hopefully my levels will have increased by then. Anyway, stay cool, take your pills and just hope for the best. You are not alone in your experiences and good luck!
  • Same here! This is my 4th pregnancy and hopefully my second child. Im 5 weeks today and am taking progesterone pills. Good luck!

I am starting progesterone suppositories tonight. I will be taking them two times a day. My progesterone is in the 5s...

What I was told was that often times you do not see an increase in progesterone levels in the blood from vaginal suppositories. But that doesn't mean that the progesterone is not there doing what it needs to do.

*ETA- I just started a PGAL check in thread. This is a place where loss moms can go to relate/exchange experiences. Very sorry for your losses.
  • I have been on the progesterone suppositories for a week now and everything is all good. I went to my obgyn as soon as I found out I was pregnant to check my levels. I knew my progesterone was going to be low bc I had an ectopic pregnancy back in May and my progesterone levels came back low. Better to be safe then sorry.

I ask my dr why she put me on the gel instead of the pill. And she told me it was bc studies have shown that the women who took the pill weren't absorbing it as well as the women who were on the gel.
  • Update: my Hcg levels more than doubled over the weekend and my progesterone is at 21.5!!! I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. First ultrasound next week and for the first time in a long time, I can enjoy being pregnant. :-)
  • My doctor told me that their shouldn't be no concern and if I really wanted to I can re test in two weeks but I'll be having my ultra sounds on the 23rd. Just praying everything turns out good.
