Breast Pumps

My insurance covers two types of pumps-Medal and Ameda. I had a single Medela 6 yrs ago and loved it however really need the double now. Here is where the delema is... my insurance covers everything for the Ameda (including a carrying bag, car charger, battery pack, and bottle cooler) whereas these additional items can be purchased for $100 for the Medela. Really don't feel like spending money on a bag and cooler and not sure how often I'll need the car charger...Getting the Ameda which includes everything you could possibly need seems like a no-brainer but the medical supply tech I spoke with said the suction on the Ameda is not as good. I also have no experience with this brand so unsure how well it works.

Would really like to hear your opinions and experiences with these pumps. Have any of you found the suction to be not as good or just quality in general to be better with one versus the other?

Re: Breast Pumps

  • I use a Medela now but had an Ameda 6 years ago. I really liked it, never had any trouble with it at all. And the company has fantastic customer service if you have any questions or concerns or problems with your pump. The reason we have the Medela now is because thats what the hospital had and thats what the insurance paid for. We paid a $35 extra charge for the fancier model with the carry bag. I honestly haven't noticed a huge difference between my previous experience with Ameda and the Medela.

  • Someone in my BMB had issues with suction on the Ameda and ended up buying a Medela out of pocket. I started off with an Ameda but the beeping sound drove me nuts, I wanted something quieter for when I went back to work so I bought the Medela PISA and am very happy with it.
