Slight congestion can also be a sign of an intolerance or food allergy if you're breastfeeding. The culprit is usually dairy (which also increases phlegm in adults). Try eliminating dairy to see if that helps!
Saline drops, cool air humidifier, and have baby sleep on an incline. And of course monitor for a fever or concerning cough. I wouldn't call pedi if it's just a runny nose, but I'd check on a cough. GL!! My LO is just getting over a cold as well!

If you have an overactive letdown it will cause congestion. I was just at the lactation consultant and was told that our baby doesn't have a cold, the spray from the letdown will cause a stuffy nose, green and explosive poops (I have an oversupply issue). If you are suffering from oversupply start block feeding. It will start to correct. If needed you can hand express so that your LO doesn't get the spray. Our LO's stuffy-ness has drastically decreased since I started block feeding and hand expressing the spray out.
@dalzien ahhhh! That helps me so much! I've only ever done block feeding with my LO, but I have a huge oversupply (over 300oz stores at 8 weeks and she was gaining over a pound a week her first month!) and my letdown is crazy (sprays continuously if she comes off the breast). I have been pumping before she eats if I know my breasts are really full so help, but didn't realize that it can lead to congestion. It's mild and she doesn't seem too bothered by it, but now I know!

Hmmmm. That is good to know. I was nursing with a shield until this week. She has stated latching better without it, and my baby girl's cold symptoms started about that time. I think I have a fast letdown and the shield buffered that some. I definitely need to hand express some before feedings.
I thought my baby was congested and the pediatrician told us sometimes they can suck milk back and it goes up into their noses and sounds like congestion. She had nothing going on in her chest though. If it sounds chesty I would call, but if it's her nose only I'd use a bulb syringe or Nosefrida and try clearing it out first.
What is block feeding?? I've noticed my little one to be a little more gassy after feedings and have trouble pooping and once he does it's been almost explosive. I have an extremely fast letdown and poops fill up way before he's ready to eat again. The ped said he's gaining weight fine so I don't have to wake him for feedings anymore. I'm afraid of pumping because I'm afraid my body will react and just make even more milk!
Re: Baby sick??
However, if his chest is rattling, I'd call the doctor. And any fever over 100.5.
