Lying on your back?

I was wondering if anyone finds themselves in the morning lying on their backs and is it ok?

Re: Lying on your back?

  • It's fine, I end up on my back sometimes. Your body let's you know if it is uncomfortable to you.

  • no problem- its o.k
  • I felt totally comfortable laying on my back until 23 or so weeks... then it became the most uncomfortable thing ever. Your body will tell you when you're too big to tolerate it.

  • I can't do it anymore because the weight of my breasts makes me feel like I'm suffocating, but don't worry if you wake up that way. You'll wake up if you need to move.

  • I am a back sleeper so while I fall asleep on my side I wake up on my back a lot. It's fine. I wouldn't sleep like that on purpose but there really isn't anything you can do if you are moving on your back while asleep.

  • Thanks for posting this. I try my best to fall asleep on my left side but find myself waking up on my back. I'm happy to hear the consensus is it's ok. I was a stomach sleeper before so finding a comfortable position now is a challenge.

I will occasionally wake up on my back. I used to worry about it but now I don't as much. As for it being safe; To quote my doctor "You woke up right?" Really, if you're fine then the baby should be perfectly okay. However, it isn't best for you and whatever isn't considered safe for you is also not considered safe for the baby. It restricts the fluids that are getting from you to the baby is really the main concern for back sleeping. Just roll back over on your side.. even if it's super sore like mine is beginning to get every night. (Although, I still love feeling those reassuring kicks she gives me!)

  • Still laying on my back... I can't remember ever not laying on my back through my first pregnancy, up to 41wks. I still lay on my stomach as much as I can without that feeling uncomfortable.
