1st Trimester

My due date is when?

So, I know date of conception. Because my DH and I were abstinent for months prior to our wedding (we already have a 2.5 year old). We conceived this baby either Sept 26 or 27th (we got married on the 26th).

So by that calculation I should be due June 18.

I had my first u/s and baby measured about 2-3 days behind, which was fine because the measurements aren't 100% accurate. We could see a little flutter of a heart beat (too small to hear, but seeing is believing). My doctor set my due date as June 14th.

I know it is only 4 days, but I'm confused as to why it is the 14th. It puts me 4 days ahead of where I actually am. Again, not a big deal, but just seemed odd.

My doctor never changed my due date with my last pregnancy, I always measured right on target, maybe off by a day or two at most. This baby will be a repeat c-section so my due date I guess doesn't mean all that much. I went into labor almost a week early with my first, so maybe the 4 days gives us wiggle room to schedule the c-section?

  • Did you ask your doctor why they moved it up?

  • Honestly I have no idea. I have been measuring 4-5 days the EDD my doctor gave me based on my first dating ultrasound but he doesn't change your due date unless it is off by a week or more. Sounds like something only your doctor can answer for you.

  • Unless you were temping and charting, you won't know the exact date that you ovulated. And even then, implantation can occur at different times after that, so no EDD is definite until you have ultrasounds to measure the progress of the baby. It may change up until the baby has reached a certain point where the measurements are accurate.

This.  I was temping and knew, for a fact, my ovulation date.  But based on my dating ultrasound, i measured 3 days ahead of where i'd be based on ovulation date alone.  Looks like i must had implanted on the early side.  I went into labor at 39+6 and delivered at 11:55pm so literally 5 minutes before my due date...so it was pretty accurate.

An early dating ultrasound somewhere in the 8-10 week window is the most accurate way to date your pregnancy.

^^ This for pinpointing your due date. I thought my original EDD was Feb 1st but when I went in for my first appointment they had my EDD at Feb 15th instead because I ovulated later. I would go by what your doctor is telling you since they have what your baby is measuring at.

  • With DS I know that sex 3-4 days before ovulation resulted in the pregnancy, it's the only way it was possible. So while I could have assumed I conceived that Wednesday...I know from temping that I ovulated on Saturday and therefore conceived on Saturday-Sunday. Sperm live a handful of days while an egg only survives about a day+ unfertilized. Then add in that the implantation process timeline and you just can't really know for a fact--due dates are estimates, and the early measurements are the best guideline we have to estimate them if you weren't temping. I wouldn't worry about 4 days, especially if you're not worried about fighting an induction date. :)

  • To get an estimate of your expected due date you would subtract three months and add 7 days..so you could expect to be due at the end of July beginning of August
