Chemical pregnancy

Hello ladies. I have not formally introduced myself. I just found out that I was pregnant last tuesday. I am recently married and we are trying for baby number one!! This was our second month trying! I took tests on Tuesday, Wednesday and saturdsy and got all positive results. Then I woke up this morning with what I would consider my period! My expected period date was friday. But I am getting positive pregnancy results! I have cramping and heavy bleeding like my period. I called the ob on call doctor and she said it could be a chemical pregnancy

Re: Chemical pregnancy

  • I have read that some women had their period while pregnant. The doctor wants me to come in for tests to find out but not knowing is killing me. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience that they wanted to share.

  • Could be a miscarriage? FX for you. Hopefully you'll get good results when you go to the doctor.
  • I had a miscarriage (chemical pregnancy) in June. Found out I was pregnant on the 8th, told my fiance, woke up to a miscarriage on the 11th. It felt exactly like a period, the cramps were a little more painful but mostly it was the same. I was 6 weeks at that point. It was very hard emotionally to deal with because there aren't a lot of people to reach out to and you can feel like your grief is not valid when you miscarry so early. Currently I am trying to conceive again and hoping it will stick this time.

It sounds like you may be going through the same thing. Just know if you do have a chemical pregnancy it is nothing to be too worried about. It proves that you can indeed get pregnant, so give it a couple months and try again. Good luck!
  • I'm so sorry you are going through this. I agree to get the blood work (betas ) done 48 hours apart to confirm or dispel.

No, you can't have your period while you're pregnant.  Your period is the shedding of your uterine lining.  Shedding of the lining during pregnancy would cause a miscarriage as I understand it.  However,  you can have bleeding and cramping during early pregnancy that could be caused by numerous things.  Crossing my fingers for you and wishing you the best.
