So, I didn't know I was pregnant last week and got the flu mist, which is apparently not advised for pregnant women. Anyone else ever done that? It didn't make me sick or anything, just wondering if I should be worried? I'm 4w6d.
I believe that it just hasn't been testing on pregnant women, but I'd call the doctor just in case. I have to get the mist/shot at my work place, and I know that we had to do the shot if there was any chance we'd get pregnant in the next 30 days, so I think it's worth calling about.
I agree with PP. Check with your OB. If I remember right, it's not recommended because it contains live virus? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
@knitmama is exactly right. Doctors want you to avoid the live virus when you're pregnant. My understanding is there aren't any risks associated with having the mist other than a higher chance of contracting the virus through the vaccine. Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I would definitely call your doctor to check, but my understanding is that the only reason live vaccines are not recommended is because they have not been studied. The risk is theoretical and likely minuscule but because it's unethical to do studies on pregnant women they just can't guarantee it's safety.
ETA: oops, didn't see your update til now glad everything worked out ok!
