Doesn't laugh

Hi, my little girl was born on the 21st of May and she has still never laughed. She smiles lots and seems rather happy but just can't seem to laugh. Sometimes it seems she's about to but it's like the laugh is stuck. Any other bubbas still not mastered a giggle yet? X

Re: Doesn't laugh

  • My little guy laughs but not very often for me. Only my husband can really get him going with some ridiculous antics. Maybe try some over the top gestures?

  • All babies hit developmental markers at different times. However, I do feel you should discuss this with your doctor as it could also be indication towards developmental issues if your LO misses other markers.
  • My little guy was born the 22nd, so one day younger (4 weeks premature). He laughs a little every day. BUT he hates tummy time and lying on the floor with his toys and has only rolled over 3 times from tummy to back. I think babies just develop differently than each other (makes me feel like captain obvious when I say that). I think they're still in the range for these things to be considered ok but it wouldn't be a waste to mention it to your pedi.
  • Thanks guys. I would usually be the one to say about babies developing in their own times too but 6 months and no laughter seems a very long time... She seems most amused by her older brother so will have to get him to give me a hand trying to be funny. Ha xx
  • My LO just turned 6 months on the 2nd and she's laughed once and that was a week and a half ago. Since then she's been acting like she's trying to, but can't figure out how to push the sound out.

My LO has also only rolled over to her belly once, but can roll side to side just fine. She can sit up unsupported. She is getting a lot better at grasping things with her hands and is just starting to make new sounds. She's also sleeping through the nights most of the time.

Every baby is different. Keep making a fool of yourself....keep trying new silly things that could provoke a laugh. Parenthood gives us a reason to look like idiots!!! :)

  • My little girl was born the 29th of May. She has giggled here and there but no full on belly laughs for us yet. Just give it more time, but if you are concerned definitely bring it up to her doctor. Every baby is going to be different! I can't wait to hear a big laugh either!
  • Mine just had her first long laugh last week (she is almost 6 months). She laughed at our dog a few times but hasn't laughed much since.
  • Your lo could just be a late laugher? My lo didn't reach or grab anything until she was 4.5, 5 months which is very late. But now at 6 months she grabs stuff like a champ, she even know her way to her mouth now lol

Talk to your doctor though, i did about the reaching

@mars8k LOL "A late laugher"  I can identify with that!  I'm picturing everyone getting the joke right away, followed by my own joke-processing wheels turning and laughing many seconds later.

Seriously, every baby is so different! My LO's "best friend" was sitting independently at three months, while my LO still needs support at 5.5. There is no rigid schedule for human development!
  • Thanks everyone x
